This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

really top-notch use of the vocalists – in terms of creating the atmosphere of some kind of voodoo ritual ceremony, done a million times in exotica and exoticist films, this may be the most successful... everything works, sounds great, and seems like it's just about to careen out of control, delivering successive moments of tension and catharsis ... masterpiece

Eden was sort an early proto-hippie, right? Wild there were folks like that back in the '40s, '50s, man.
Avatar 8:45pm
Flash Strap:

@TDK: yeah he was really living that life!

I remember reading about these guys in Paris in the (i think) 18th century who grew long beards and went barefoot & lived off the land to be more like the ancient Greeks; makes me think that certain aspects of the hippie way are timeless
Avatar 8:45pm

and recurring
Avatar 8:46pm

but yeah when they were trying to find the guy responsible for "Nature Boy" he was eventually discovered living under the Hollywood sign, all bearded and barefoot and eating raw foods. wild man

A wild man was hanging around the tennis courts, some tennis players freaked out when they noticed him sitting on a nearby bench, eating raw chicken from a big jar,
Avatar 8:53pm

Avatar 9:16pm
TDK60:

A long time ago, a roommate had an album with similar pre-Columbian themes - from Mexico I think. The sound was mainly percussion and vox humana I think. The album cover was obscure, mainly white with just tiny type. Been trying to find it since. And Waldo sounds like a possible candidate.
Avatar 9:17pm
Flash Strap:

@TDK : if you figure it out, I definitely want to know!
Avatar 9:20pm
Flash Strap:

I love this record because it's a sincere act of musical archaeology that nonetheless bends itself into the shape of exotica music – as though it's grafting an incomplete reconstruction onto an exotica-esque host
Avatar 9:21pm
TDK60:

Flash, it had an academic air hence the not-interesting cover. I should contact that old roomie.
Avatar 9:22pm
Flash Strap:

all of Waldo's records have extremely bombastic technicolor covers so it may not be her, but it could be a variant
