Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from May 8, 2020 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

So sound is a wave which makes structure, like matter is a wave and a particle? Everything is energy is a wave is matter is a pattern made of energy, and sound waves on a surface with sand is a way we can experience that tangibly?

I had seen Chladni patterns before (guessing most people have at one point or another - the surface of the water in the cup in _Jurassic Park_ would qualify), but despite a youth saturated with Martin Gardner books, I had never heard of Chladni. Agree with Kat that Brycesplaining is FTW.

I respect jugglos! I never thought that would happen, but hey, reevaluation can surprise you with the results. That book by Malcolm Gladwell on snap judgements was pretty much all about that. Useful evolutionarily, but not useful in truly judging reality fairly.

@fred: After having studied Portuguese, I have the problem of a zealous new-language learner in that I tend to overpronunce names, such as when I read teh names of Brazilian musicians. But I have some restraint, as I've yet to refer to Sergio Mendes as "sair-djou main-jeess"!

@Gaylord: Funny you mention this, French people are most obnoxious about Brazilian/Portuguese names (usually insisting they should be pronounced as a Spanish name as said by an Italian with a Belgian accent or something that makes as much sense). Brazil and Portugal Portuguese are different, as much or more than French in France and Quebec. Same words with different meanings

@Crud, I was hiking through NC, VA, and WV in 2003 and it was during the emergence of the 17 year cicada. I thought I was near a turbine power plant situation one day, but as I got closer, at least a mile later, I was in the woods and they were simply everywhere. It was deafening, and amazing to see. Tens? Hundreds of thousands? Beautiful. That crew, and it's inherent broods, are popping up again this year, 17 years later. Good stuff.
