Also, 91.1 has been coming in super well the past few days. Usually we can't get it at all in north Brooklyn and use 91.9. No clue why these things vary, whether it's our end, the transmitter, sunspots, whatever it might be.

Make sure it is outdoors, roof mounted, or in the attic. Most roof antennas will give you radio reception similar to a car radio, or often better. Try re-purposing a TV antenna you already have; use an FM splitter to use it on your radio.

Except there is this ex-cop in my building who is good with the building owners so there is literally ONE antenna on the roof: A CB antenna so he can bullshit with the same people he talks to in front of the building but via CB… And his antenna is power boosted so I can’t own a turntable else his stupid crap leaks into the audio.
Anyway…

but seriously i got a Sangean radio a couple of years ago, and that seems to get much better reception in my part of Brooklyn. I probably have a better position with respect to East Oarange than N. Brooklyn, though.

note to North Brooklyners: it’s mostly the bulk of Midtown Manhattan that interferes with the line-of-sight transmission from East Orange, apparently. Tivoli radios are the best receivers i’ve ever used to pick up 91.1. they work when others don’t. i just found a digital Sangean in a thrift shop and it works well, too. you still have to play around and move the unit and it’s antennae around to see what works best. my daily struggle to pick up 91.1 on my hi-fi in ridgewood, queens involves a complicated dance with the speaker wire antennae, paintings on the wall, houseplants, acoustic guitars, and couch pillows. switch the receiver to MONO....mono signals travel further.
sometimes i give up and listen on line...stereo, but not the....presence?

Good question, TTom. Our car FM antenna is banged to hell and barely attached after I have forcibly converted my roof to a canoe carrier time after time -- yet we can almost always pick up 91.9 driving around N. Brooklyn and 91.1 when we clear Manhattan.

Speaking of shipping, Amazon seems to be throwing in the towel on having some items returned. I bought a picture frame for my bride and it arrived with broken glass (clearly broken before it was pack, as there wasn't enough broken pieces in the box to fill the frame). I asked for a return shipping label and instead they credited my account and told me to keep it. Same thing happened with my wife when a bowl she ordered arrived chipped. It was glass as well, so maybe they don't want to have to deal with a box with broken glass in it.

Ever deal with OCD people who return stuff? It’s a disease. Endlessly waste time and resources. Better just give them credit or just deny a return or refund when there are more important things to deal with nowadays.

Vesuvio’s Pizza (since 1981):
I see you are up to your tired, crude ways once again, terrorizing the WFMU chat forums in an attempt to draw attention to your (admittedly) once-great cheesesteaks. Unfortunately, your chants have grown as weak as your grease-ridden, floppy pies, caked in intractable “cheese” and glorified catsup.
Listeners, if you would like to enjoy a slice of real, high-quality pizza, head over to Vesuvio’s Pizza (1305 Beaver Dam Road. Point Pleasant, NJ 08742). Situated in historic downtown amongst breweries, community parks and various cultural landmarks, our pizzeria is home to one of the finest examples of sfincione (“Sicilian Pizza”). Here at Vesuvio’s we’d be nothing without “u.”
