	4:02pm McGreivey: I have (and use ) a Tascam digital 8-track. It basically works like a cassette 4-track, but it has effects built in, and editing and mastering capabilities that a cassette 4-track could never do.

	4:07pm McGreivey: Sure, you can use Audacity or whatever. But if you don't have a place to leave your recording great set up all the time, then you have to go get your recording interface and hook it up, and half the time your computer doesn't want to talk to it, or whatever. A freestanding recorder always works when you turn it on, and you can take it anywhere.

	4:15pm Bas NL: I have used a Tascam 8-track hard disk recorder in the past. Now i'm on a PC running Reaper DAW software, but i find it very difficult to get anything done quickly. Editing is far easier though.

But if you don't have a place to leave your recording great set up all the time, then you have to go get your recording interface and hook it up, and half the time your computer doesn't want to talk to it, or whatever. A freestanding recorder always works when you turn it on, and you can take it anywhere.
