This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Or Balkan...
I wonder how much is retained from the Pre-Colombian - a fair amount I reckon.
Do you know that last part of 'On the Road' ?
Avatar 8:16pm
Flash Strap:

This differs from the recordings on Puro tayta Shanti, which were all recorded for commercial purposes, 45s & LPs. these were recorded onsite during Santiago and thus may feature less professional, certainly less elaborate, musicianship

Right. Its funny cause Kerouac means a lot to me - but not necessarily for the famous change agent that "On the Road' was for everybody... But as soon as this episode started it brought back the final road trip when they go South from Colorado & finally really get out of the U.S.mindspace - everything of course thru Kerouac's subjectivity & spirituality...

hey flash strap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm

it smells good...familiar somehow. he said he wouldn't be surprised if it has chicken stock in it -because they put meat in everything. it doesn't smell like it to me.
...i mentioned peruvian music emanating from my laptop but he kept his headphones on.
  8:23pm

Franco, today I was down in the East Village and got a really cold coffee soda from a bodega. It was so damn hot out.

Music from this region is so relentlessly unmooring. Projecting a discernible "center" seems not so much consciously eschewed as it is simply not considered.

When I was in a little school basement band five years ago - our drummer would project DVDs on a wall - & one was old footage of a Tibetan village - peasants spinning & little kids - just this incredible community. Reminded of it.
