Summer Breeze: man, this song makes memories come flooding back. Wikipedia says the Seals & Crofts hit version came out on August 31, 1972, so I'd just turned 9. It was all over top-40 radio for the following months.

Top 40 radio could be so maudlin in the seventies.

Cheap Trick?

McGroovey:

I have a Nazz bootleg that has a couple Rick Nielson songs in it. I think the story is that two of the Nazz guys tried to go out as the Nazz with Rick on guitar. That didn't fly. Then Rick started another band (Fuse?) That included one (?) of the Nazz guys, and that eventually became Cheap Trick

brainiac:

@McGroovey: Well... sorta. Todd basically joined every band he produced. So back in '82 he was part of Cheap Trick.

Well, the '82 Cheap Trick thing was 10+ years later. Todd and Rick were already connected.

I got 86'ed from a bar in Brooklyn once for playing Cheap Trick's The Flame on accident. The bartender was giving me and my buddy dollars to play the jukebox. I wasn't seeing straight when I picked Cheap Trick's The Flame. I meant to play Surrender. When the Flame came on the bartender took our beers, poured them out and said we were done. I can't really blame him.

first time ever in the "locals" dive in santa cruz i decided to feed the monster, saw Jimi Hendrix and played "fire". only thing is it was a tribute album with a horrible bowed-string version. the second it started everyone started yelling! "Who played this?!" thought i was gonna get my ass kicked!
