We wanted to go visit the Hearst Castle as well, but it was too pricey for the thing. Like you would pay entrance, but had to choose from several packages (kitchen + room blablabla, or garden +...). You couldn't just go and visit the whole place at your leisure. So we didn't.

hi, Julie and folks.
Sylvia, Hearst Castle is quite something to experience. i forget which tiny bit we paid too much to see. yes, they seem to have the money grubbing down pat, like the namesake, who was also a racist asshole, in addition to being a philandering prick.

I was in LA for a week in 2005 and went to Hearst Castle. Didn't think it was extortionate and enjoyed the experience but you had the bus/group thing. Maybe things have changed sine then. He obviously had much more money than taste.

Nope but they do have a very big organ there and used to give performances. It no longer works according to wiki.

I remember they did one episode that had the closing theme song done on a Hammond Organ.

Once again, I find it so hard to understand how the likes of The Moody Blues, early Bee Gees and early Genesis were dismissed by contemporary "serious" rock critics. As well as Donovan...

Also, The Asteroid No.4 sounds like they are on the same wavelength. I'm a sucker for that kind of music. In the 80s I was young and stupid and did not give a toss for that sort of stuff when John Peel played it - funnily enough, he did NOT like Felt.

@5:06 Julie: you mean the cover? The musical content is a bit of a letdown. Physical Graffiti was much much better but a lot of the songs were outtakes from previous years, like on many a Rolling Stones album.

@5:20 Julie: it was like a bit over $30, but then again, for 90s vinyl you'll have to pay 100+ (euros, dollars, pounds) nowadays. A pity since a lot of vinyl nowadays is so badly done it is as if it was meant for a collector's fetish object instead of a means for listening to music.

Avatar 6:44pm

@6:42 Dean: that is An Ideal For Living, Warsaw is the opening track. Released as Joy Division, and I would not be surprised if they had decided the name change around the time of the recording, as they played only a couple of gigs after its recording in December 1977. This could be because they were booked as Warsaw. Then again, I was not there, just pure speculation.
