A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Theaster Gates, Minority Majority, 2002
Narrator: Gates is interested in the way materials can embody history, even in an abstract work of art. Here, he uses old fire hoses to reference police violence against peaceful protesters. He called the work Minority Majority.

@Frank H, I'm glad that both upstanding patriots like yourself and godless gay baby-eating socialist witches like me can come together to enjoy Trouble's show.

i tried to watch that movie again this week, @wizard frog. That's from the italian job, isn't it? slow beginning lost me in a re-watch. He was also amazing in miss congeniality

@trouble Yes! Though I remember it from Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon doing their Michael Caine impressions from 'The Trip' - very funny stuff

@wizardfrog: that movie was very good, subsequent attempts in that series, not so good

Of COURSE dead people voted. Why, with my SorosBucks(tm) in my pocket, I made sure that both of my parents voted for Biden...and they've been gone since 2009!!

The Italian Job is a great movie, it used to be shown every xmas or bank holidays in the UK. Peter Collinson directed it and he was an orphan and protege of Noel Coward, who despite ill health, plays a great cameo in the film. Get Carter is my fave Michael Caine film out of the many hundreds! I love The Trip with Coogan and Brydon.

My favorite bookstore is the Seminary Co-op Bookstore near the University of Chicago - I'm a proud member. If you live in Chicago you probably already know about it.

@YB: Is that down near the Oriental Institute?

Oh, yes, that's the place I'm thinking of.

YETI BOB:

βrian: Exactly - down in Hyde Park. You can make an afternoon of it - check out the enormous statue of the Human-Headed Winged Bull (lamassu) from Palace of Sargon II, take a look at the beautiful "Robie House" designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, then check out some books at the Coop. (And if you're lucky maybe you'll bump into Barack and Michelle)

I'm not sure if some of the stuff in the Oriental Institute Museum should be returned to its rightful owners, but it sure is cool to be able to look at this stuff.
