hey i have a "tech/artist" question...i have recording gear makes decent recordings but the finished piece is unacceptably lower levels, compared with almost everything on bandcamp. i WAS mastering my shit to a tascam rw900 but that bit the dust. even then it was low volume -but acceptable, if i'm conscious of digital distortion, which sucks.
now without that it's even lower. -like, a loud noise piece -quiet!
what do other home recording artists use for final mastering?

coel...you are getting acceptable levels and rich sound recorded for the source tracks? If so, the mastering shouldn't be bringing things down like that. I don't master much, but honestly, and setup wherein you can even run the stereo tracks out and into an equalizer and some compression would do a 'decent' job. It looks like you don't ant to use a computer, though. I have a Roland VS-2000CD which has a mastering suite and burner. There are many options ont he cheap if you don't mind mastering within a computer...and even more if you want to get creative with outboard equipment. @ultardamno that is a cool link! Gotta bookmark that one. The only thing is it wasn't at the Fillmore. It was at the Temple which was right next door to the Fillmore. And right next to the Temple was the Jim Jones People's Temple. That was one popin' corner at the time.

OK - here is a story. I used to print t-shirts and printed some Ozzy "Blizzard Of Oz" tees. I snuck a few samples out and went to the Elite Club to see Code Of Honor. I snuck in by walking in backward. Within an hour I was doing the lights. I threw one of the Ozzy sample to Jonathan from Code Of Honor and he wore it for the whole show. This was probably the first time that t made it out in public. Good Fucking Times!

Mr. Pumpy:

@mariano...that sounds like a good day. Covid or not, it still sounds like a good day! Maybe I'll send you some links to tunes I've been getting into lately. Things that are good to work along to. I was supposed to move, well move the majority of my things into storage, on Friday, but my closing got moved to 12/14. Of course I took the opportunity to call the moving company and reschedule them for December 11th so I could procrastinate some more! I am paying them to do the bulk of my packing, but there are things I need to do of course. I'll be mostly here, but back and forth to my dad's at times, for the nest 4-5 days. I have to pack my vinyl up and throw some shit out. It's not that bad being I moved here only a bit over two years ago. I'm fairly streamlined now. SO, I'm not really doing anything holiday related tomorrow...just the push to get out of here once and for all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...no new digs, per say. I'm selling being I'm living with pops anyhow. So, one more thing off my plate. Actually, two things if you count that I won't be a landlord any longer as well. I can then focus more on making my space over there more livable, and of course I can be less scattered, and by extension, take care of pops more effectively. It got to the point where it made sense to either rent out my unit of my two family, or sell the whole thing. the market compelled me. It was speaking, I was listening.
