Satyr Day!!

From Wikipedia:
"In Greek mythology, a satyr, also known as a silenos, is a male nature spirit with ears and a tail resembling those of a horse, as well as a permanent, exaggerated erection. Early artistic representations sometimes include horse-like legs, but, by the sixth century BC, they were more often represented with human legs."

OK, maybe not.

I know I've said this million times, but oh those were the days when I bought all the This Mortal Coil albums on vinyl for a few £'s each (yes, also the two double albums) and also other 4AD stuff. Perhaps around 2003 it was not too trendy.

A final hour theme just occurred to me: bootlegs.
Avatar 🦇 8:06pm
Julie:

I like it but an hour of bootlegs might get me into trouble
  8:07pm
Dean:

From whom?
Avatar 🦇 8:08pm
Julie:

various folks. Better to sprinkle them in and not talk too loudly about them. One DJ did a whole show of prince boots. He had to take down the archive.
  8:10pm
Dean:

A whole show of assorted boots doesn't implicate the same problem. I imagine it might not be wise to archive the show. But I'm almost--not 100%--anti-copyright. One of our founding fathers' more stupid moves.
Avatar 8:11pm

@8:59 Dean: my biased opinion, but I think of Ian Curtis a very good songwriter, I think he had a notebook entitled "lyrics" long before any band activities. In a technical sense, no, not very musically talented (sang off-key often etc.). But it did not matter. Again, as a die-hard fan, me: totally biased

Dean: I saw him solo and with The Bears too. Personally he is quite likable, very humble and friendly, contrary to his stage persona

But here's the deal: I can't stand most of Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, Talking Heads, Yo La Tengo, Squeeze, a bunch of folks who routinely appear on WFMU. That's fine. I listen anyway. I'm happy to hear once again the Joy Division tune to which I attended in the '70s, not least because I would never have chosen to play it on my own.

@Potocopy Cha Cha 2000: When I friend of mine gave me a copy of Loveless, and told me it was like Lush, I listened and it blew my mind. I listened to it so many times, and it started on my journey to outre sounds... (I was 16)

@9:14 northguineahills: I got there a bit late, around 1998, when Lush announced their split officially (it was obvious of course already late 1996) and My Bloody Valentine went on hiatus. Better late than never? I was looking for "ethereal sounds" having found Cocteau Twins a few years earlier.
