WFMU is a station for thinking people and cultural critique, and also a fantastic forum for under-represented artists. Yes, as a family, we are as lefty as f**k and if you don't like it, then also please step away from all of the culture that Left leaning causes have brought to the US. That would include your right to vote if you are anything other than a White male, public education, PBS, and arts foundations. The Right NEVER votes to fund culture. We do.

I had the privilege of seeing a pair of bald eagles over the course of several days many chilly early Novembers ago...it was after a late storm and they were rebuilding their nest. This was in Upstate NY near an aqueduct. You don't realize how strong they are--the female flew up to the nesting platform (built by local water rangers) with a branch that was at least 3" thick and 7' long, and she was holding it with only maybe 8" trailing on one side, and she flew straight up with it like she was carrying a twig.

	9:54am Handy Haversack: Now I'm picturing a bald eagle starring in a new narrative video for "Signs." Supposedly there are some in Upper Manhattan, but I have never seen them. They have made a real come back in Western Michigan -- we now see them whenever we go out there after not seeing them at all for decades. We had some pretty wild eagle close encounters in Maine this summer. They were windsurfing and fishing while we were fighting to keep our canoe from capsizing in the same wind. Pretty wild! @hwait, OK, sweetie?
	9:55am Trouble: Since all wfmu dj's are volunteer human beings, and we are not representing a major corporation that silences our beliefs for marketing purposes, it is natural for DJ's to talk about what is on their minds. Especially in this fragile moment of growing hatred and the rich getting richer these feelings are the source of many of our musical interests as well. I will not change my ways to avoid offending people who like what i do and not what i say and believe. That said, i don't enjoy my feed being filled with lots of bluster so I sometimes avoid topics that are important and outrageous to me because i don't see the benefit of going back and forth in a space I chose to fill with great musical sounds.
	9:56am Threemoons: @Handy actually bald eagles have a few permanent roosts up near the Cloisters in the Bronx--apparently they tend to return to good fishing spots every year and have fairly fixed nesting sites (which is why the water keepers upstate built the platforms for them).

	9:58am Phillippe Bastille: @handy @threemoons there's a nest not far out of our line of vision that a male eagle has been occupying the past two falls and winters. There are a LOT of osprey nesting in our small river and they run him off in the summer. The big one our neighbor saw today was larger than him, and likely a female based on her size, if my neighbor's research is correct, so maybe we'll have a nest of little eaglets to watch this summer. The eagle population is starting to pick up here (just outside of Annapolis). We saw three of them hanging out in a tree that was maybe a 15 minute boat ride from our house. The Maryland Eastern Shore (referred to by a former governor as "the outhouse on the other side of the bridge") has a couple thriving populations.

	9:59am Threemoons: @Handy and most of NY State has Golden Eagles, terrain allowing. IIRC they are the largest eagles in the Northeast and they are truly spectacular creatures. I'll never forget, one time I was in the car with Mom. We were driving a few hours North to a friend's place in Orange County on 9W and had a gorgeous view of the Adirondacks. Then, in clear view, we saw two golden eagles mating mid-air--a blazing wheel of gold feathers and wings. It was amazing.
	10:00am Handy Haversack: Threemoons, there's one river paddle we have done in Michigan several times, not a long one, but that goes to a sandy bank in an otherwise reedy, wetlands river where bald eagles nest. So every year we see them and their young flying around there, and the water gets deep and clear enough to tie up and go for a dip. That's the life! Also: WORD, Trouble!

Currently reading an excellent romp, Harrow the Ninth (lesbian necromancers in spaaaaaaaace). Over the break I read David Mogo, Godhunter (godfall in Lagos) and Mouthful of Birds (short stories, Samanta Schweblin). I had the privilege of seeing a pair of bald eagles over the course of several days many chilly early Novembers ago...it was after a late storm and they were rebuilding their nest. This was in Upstate NY near an aqueduct. You don't realize how strong they are--the female flew up to the nesting platform (built by local water rangers) with a branch that was at least 3" thick and 7' long, and she was holding it with only maybe 8" trailing on one side, and she flew straight up with it like she was carrying a twig.

	9:54am Handy Haversack: Now I'm picturing a bald eagle starring in a new narrative video for "Signs." Supposedly there are some in Upper Manhattan, but I have never seen them. They have made a real come back in Western Michigan -- we now see them whenever we go out there after not seeing them at all for decades. We had some pretty wild eagle close encounters in Maine this summer. They were windsurfing and fishing while we were fighting to keep our canoe from capsizing in the same wind. Pretty wild! @hwait, OK, sweetie?
	9:55am Trouble: Since all wfmu dj's are volunteer human beings, and we are not representing a major corporation that silences our beliefs for marketing purposes, it is natural for DJ's to talk about what is on their minds. Especially in this fragile moment of growing hatred and the rich getting richer these feelings are the source of many of our musical interests as well. I will not change my ways to avoid offending people who like what i do and not what i say and believe. That said, i don't enjoy my feed being filled with lots of bluster so I sometimes avoid topics that are important and outrageous to me because i don't see the benefit of going back and forth in a space I chose to fill with great musical sounds.
	9:56am Threemoons: @Handy actually bald eagles have a few permanent roosts up near the Cloisters in the Bronx--apparently they tend to return to good fishing spots every year and have fairly fixed nesting sites (which is why the water keepers upstate built the platforms for them).

There are a LOT of osprey nesting in our small river and they run him off in the summer. The big one our neighbor saw today was larger than him, and likely a female based on her size, if my neighbor's research is correct, so maybe we'll have a nest of little eaglets to watch this summer. The eagle population is starting to pick up here (just outside of Annapolis). We saw three of them hanging out in a tree that was maybe a 15 minute boat ride from our house. The Maryland Eastern Shore (referred to by a former governor as "the outhouse on the other side of the bridge") has a couple thriving populations.

	9:59am Threemoons: @Handy and most of NY State has Golden Eagles, terrain allowing. IIRC they are the largest eagles in the Northeast and they are truly spectacular creatures. I'll never forget, one time I was in the car with Mom. We were driving a few hours North to a friend's place in Orange County on 9W and had a gorgeous view of the Adirondacks. Then, in clear view, we saw two golden eagles mating mid-air--a blazing wheel of gold feathers and wings. It was amazing.
	10:00am Handy Haversack: Threemoons, there's one river paddle we have done in Michigan several times, not a long one, but that goes to a sandy bank in an otherwise reedy, wetlands river where bald eagles nest. So every year we see them and their young flying around there, and the water gets deep and clear enough to tie up and go for a dip. That's the life! Also: WORD, Trouble!
