	9:48am Threemoons: Trouble--ABSOLUTELY RE keeping money in the community. Not only buying local, but now that I have a bunch of crap that I brought back from Mom's house when she moved, I am SELLING it local to keep capital in the community. Case in point: I had a HUGE bag of VERY rare Magic the Gathering cards. Probably could have gotten $3-4K on eBay. BUT....local game shop was struggling, and had just started doing in-store official competitions again (sanctioned by game maker). Prizes are a HUGE draw, as is selling rare cards. I let him have it all for $2K and that really did help get HIM a draw/sellable items (cards sell for much more individually) as his shop--totally battered by COVID--got back on its feet.
	9:48am Dave: Working from Home is want I to keep. Maybe not all the time -- I do miss human contact, and I miss Manhattan -- but working from home lets me feel more in control of my daily routine, and I love that.

	9:49am Threemoons: Also on the rare occasions that I order food in, I use the restaurant's native app--screw DoorDash et al. Crooked fucks. One of my local faves, Ornella, actually had to almost sue Door Dash for secretly listing him.

	9:55am headcleaner: Being involuntarily (but joyfully) unemployed, and then locked at home with nowhere to go for a year+ now has helped free me from two addictions: (1) to abusive / disrespectful / unethical employers and (2) to the perceived need to go out into Fun Town every nite and spend, spend, spend to anesthetize myself against the chronic pain and stress caused by said toxic employers (and by spending all that money every nite, deepen my dependence on them).
	9:55am Threemoons: Also HH the next time you and Kate are in Astoria, hit Lockwood and the Brass Owl--both are great, woman-run boutiques with tons of nice stuff for yourself, Kate, gifting, the home, etc. After I had my hair done I got a cute pair of daisy earrings for $20 made by--you guessed it--a local artist.

I have adopted the "right hand on chest, polite little bow" thing that Orthodox Jews (to avoid touching someone of the opposite sex) and oddly enough, some Middle Eastern cultures do, and it's universally recognized.

It doesn't really stock the stuff that I play, I think. But then, most stores don't. The Compleat Strategist in Manhattan is definitely more my style, but even that mostly has mainstream stuff. I really get most of my gaming materials through Kickstarter these days. Total board game moratorium, too. They take up too much space for me to justify them at this point. There are already a couple more Kingdom Death boxes coming at some point ...

I know very little about her, but she was endorsed by the out-going, term-limited Councilman, Costa Constantinides, who is just a stand-up guy/overall incredibly kind person who cared about neighborhood issues large and small that truly mattered (from LGBTQ rights and environmental matters to addressing bike lanes and traffic nightmares on Astoria Blvd.). One of those rare actually meaningful local pol endorsements.

At first I was as annoyed AF but then we got to talking. Guy was a toy store manager until Spamazon pretty much destroyed his business. Nice guy and really cares about his constituency.

	10:47am melinda: @Brian maybe. Human touch is important though. If you're a single childless person sometimes touching someone's hand is the only physical contact you have. I continue my general practice of handwashing or sanitizing before handling food, and washing my hands when I get home after being out. That seems the better solution to me.

	11:05am headcleaner: WKCR has been pre-recorded but not always archival - a fair number of programs (Som do Brasil, James Irsay) have been "virtually live" (recorded shortly before, like WFMU was early pandemic). But WFMU's being live nearly all the time does seem to have been truly exceptional

	11:16am HyperDose: Wow, the Discogs community is equally as amazing /helpful as ours. My best friend's mother passed away earlier in the week. My friend's older brother (who has been having a very hard time with it, naturally) noticed her obituary mentioned something about an album she put out back in the day (composed 95% of it!). Independent release so didn't think I had a chance finding it. There was a submission on Discogs, got in contact with the person, and it turns out his friend not only has the vinyl (which we will try to buy), he rips all of them to digital. Was able to send my friend a 320 kbps MP3 copy. The back sleeve photo also has an address of a couple who performed on the album. We're going to write to them in case they have the masters, I could rip them into Pro Tools and do a full remix/remaster of the album. What a day!

But I think I’m leaning mostly toward Defunding The disgracefully bloated, fascistic and unaccountable Police as being my top issue. Which means the former public defender who’s seen up close the vileness of the justice and law enforcement systems. The elephant in the room here locally is also unaffordable housing (the rampage of realty flush with Financial Terrorist of Wall St Monopoly money), the supplanting of small business with corporate franchises and not enough public investment (look at the waterfront park in LIC compared to any in Astoria for a grim reminder of the kind of graft invoked in funding appropriation). The citizenry of Astoria votes consistently progressive. But still the neighborhood seems way too conservative to me. No music, theater, comedy or art venues. Whatsoever. Finally one bookshop (but no used one).

Not only buying local, but now that I have a bunch of crap that I brought back from Mom's house when she moved, I am SELLING it local to keep capital in the community. Case in point: I had a HUGE bag of VERY rare Magic the Gathering cards. Probably could have gotten $3-4K on eBay. BUT....local game shop was struggling, and had just started doing in-store official competitions again (sanctioned by game maker). Prizes are a HUGE draw, as is selling rare cards. I let him have it all for $2K and that really did help get HIM a draw/sellable items (cards sell for much more individually) as his shop--totally battered by COVID--got back on its feet.
	9:48am Dave: Working from Home is want I to keep. Maybe not all the time -- I do miss human contact, and I miss Manhattan -- but working from home lets me feel more in control of my daily routine, and I love that.

	9:55am headcleaner: Being involuntarily (but joyfully) unemployed, and then locked at home with nowhere to go for a year+ now has helped free me from two addictions: (1) to abusive / disrespectful / unethical employers and (2) to the perceived need to go out into Fun Town every nite and spend, spend, spend to anesthetize myself against the chronic pain and stress caused by said toxic employers (and by spending all that money every nite, deepen my dependence on them).

I know very little about her, but she was endorsed by the out-going, term-limited Councilman, Costa Constantinides, who is just a stand-up guy/overall incredibly kind person who cared about neighborhood issues large and small that truly mattered (from LGBTQ rights and environmental matters to addressing bike lanes and traffic nightmares on Astoria Blvd.). One of those rare actually meaningful local pol endorsements.

I continue my general practice of handwashing or sanitizing before handling food, and washing my hands when I get home after being out. That seems the better solution to me.

	11:16am HyperDose: Wow, the Discogs community is equally as amazing /helpful as ours. My best friend's mother passed away earlier in the week. My friend's older brother (who has been having a very hard time with it, naturally) noticed her obituary mentioned something about an album she put out back in the day (composed 95% of it!). Independent release so didn't think I had a chance finding it. There was a submission on Discogs, got in contact with the person, and it turns out his friend not only has the vinyl (which we will try to buy), he rips all of them to digital. Was able to send my friend a 320 kbps MP3 copy. The back sleeve photo also has an address of a couple who performed on the album. We're going to write to them in case they have the masters, I could rip them into Pro Tools and do a full remix/remaster of the album. What a day!

But I think I’m leaning mostly toward Defunding The disgracefully bloated, fascistic and unaccountable Police as being my top issue. Which means the former public defender who’s seen up close the vileness of the justice and law enforcement systems. The elephant in the room here locally is also unaffordable housing (the rampage of realty flush with Financial Terrorist of Wall St Monopoly money), the supplanting of small business with corporate franchises and not enough public investment (look at the waterfront park in LIC compared to any in Astoria for a grim reminder of the kind of graft invoked in funding appropriation). The citizenry of Astoria votes consistently progressive. But still the neighborhood seems way too conservative to me. No music, theater, comedy or art venues. Whatsoever. Finally one bookshop (but no used one).
