Lamb is definitely the best of Genesis, any period. But they were not getting along so well at that point lol -- Gabriel writing lyrics in one room, and the band jamming to come up with arrangements in another room. I've read that Genesis loaned the cover band The Musical Box the slide series that ran during the 1975 Lamb tour's shows, which Tony Banks always complains almost never worked right the whole show. Did they have the backprojected slides for Lamb when you saw TMB?

I appreciate it - cause somehow all these early 'good' period Genesis albums & I never quite crossed paths.
...I have said they strike me as a King Crimson that hadn't reached puberty (they did get together as Public Schoolboys or something in fact ?) ...but that's not a total dis or anything...

Great music here, but Genesis was struggling along financially. Tony Stratton-Smith (the Charisma label owner) loved loved loved them, and fronted expenses, and gave them income to live on, but contractually they owed that money back from future earnings. By the mid 70s, they were over a half million pounds in debt to the record company, and didn't get that paid off till the late 70s or even early 80s, after they went more art-poppy.

Chris from Brooklyn:

My Dearest Sheila B.

As ever, I am not WORTHY. Always appreciate every and any set. Your ability and taste have made my mind at ease over many years.

I thank you.

As for your deep plunging descent into the Prog/Genesis end of the pool.

Party on my lady. I will follow you and any muse no matter where it leads.

Once upon a time….

Phil Collins and his many many overplayed songs on AOR (album oriented rock) post Peter Gabriel left me terribly judgmental of the man’s output.

Granted. A singing drummer. Gotta give props etc.

All the same. I am beyond willing, nay even eager, to follow you down this rediscovery rabbit hole wherever it may lead.

I have confidence in your talent, taste, and judgment

Just one thing.

I’d initially been delighted by your taste in airing the many ladies that are indeed my first musical love.

Please don’t leave them behind yet incorporate them in this brave new musical turn you’ve undertaken.

Can’t wait until you return full time. But don’t rush your metamorphosis and sabbatical on my desires.

Enjoy. Be fulfilled. And as ever the unique person I’ve long admired and appreciated.

Peace out. Enjoy the journey. I’ll gladly tag along wherever you lead.

Cordially

Chris G

Heartfelt. We met only once at the Johnny Mueller “celebration” of his life with the SUW crew.

As you were busy I simply bowed and did the “I’m not worthy” bit that I’d only done once before for another Grand Dame of WFMU: Terre T.

I hold you both in equal accord.

Never stop being you. And thx.
