Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from September 27, 2024 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I was feeling some push back hearing the words about the "land being mine", thinking it was from a colonizer POV. Looked it up.
Australian comp featuring songwriting of Kev Carmody.

Carmody had an Irish father and an aboriginal mother. Even in the late 1950s Australia strongly discriminated against mixed families. They were given a choice of either turning the kids over to an assimilation school or the mother and he and his brother being permanently moved to a island aboriginal reservation, Great Palm.

I've seen Robyn perform a few times and he's always great. But the best-ever was the time he played in a small venue in suburban NJ and after the gig, my wife and I walked across a parking lot at midnight to an all-night diner where we ordered disco fries and a bottle of champagne. Robyn wandered in shortly thereafter, but we were too starstruck to talk to him.

I'll still make a point of picking up a physical HP calculator for random little occasional cipherin' instead of using a software calculator on the computer, just because the act of using an HP calculator is a rewarding experience.

And while I had an engineering background and mostly used the scientific calculators, I did pick up an HP-12C along the way (largely because it was the classic HP model which stayed in production longest, given the way it got embedded in the financial community as a standard tool)

MmHm. Well - Boston was an influence on Nirvana. As WyntonMarsalis said - you can cloe your eyes - but not your ears. I could equate Boston with all that stuff that Charted too high in the late 70s ~ early 80s that I have some allergy too... A lot of that was Social Context. They were loving that ...*I* was about something else... Yerknow - how from Boston to Journey maybe... I mean - the fellow from Fitchburg, Mass. (a tough more urban town than up here) who really got me listening to JohnnyThunders was probly a Boston fan too... I couldn't separate myself from Satin Jacket Rawk fast enuff ...but it's only been Half a Century...
