Really, it was the movie that let to me the record. I didn't know about the record until after I saw the movie. Then I saw the album in the store, and told my mom that I needed to have it. She had no idea what I was talking about.

I went to a punk show in Toronto, and also a goth club. The punk show was funny because people were trying to act hard. My GF at the time punked out a trustafarian dude who was trying to make fun of her (red) dreadlocks. It was a real joke to see people in Canada act tough/punk/poor etc. But otherwise the people there were very nice. Hung out with the homeless street poets a bit, they had access to public showers and internet cafes, etc. They just hitchhiked west in the winter, it was a lifestyle thing.

The ashtray line reminds me of just how much smoking there was in the past. Just EVERYWHERE. Any place that you couldn't argue needed to be non-smoking, people just smoked anyway. It was so wild to think about how recently ther was smoking in every building.
