Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I've never worn contacts, but I believe they work the same way my progressive glasses work. The strength of the prescription varies from the top of the lens to the bottom, and you see neerer or farer by looking through the top or the bottom of the lens. It takes getting used to, but that's how I use my glasses.

@johnk77: By all means, do! It's at San Pablo and Garfield in Albany, just north of Berkeley. Nearby you'll also find Club Mallard and the Ivy Room, both old standby bars. Ivy Room has live acts most nights.

While you're in town, take note of the Well Fargo bank in El Cerrito, on the east side of San Pablo, north of Garfield and the Hotsy Totsy. It sits where a marvelous jazz nightclub used to operate way back in the day, Hambone Kelly's. There are decent live recordings from the venue by Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band.

I speak only for myself, but by the time this was recorded Jerry Garcia was playing a custom (Wolf or Tiger or what ever the hell it was...) made me realize gear is not everything, but it's a lot.

To my ears, when he was playing an SG or Strat (69-71) his playing was unsurpassed.

Thank you, johnk77, for reminding us of Nixon. (Really, I'm not being sarcastic.) We live too much in the present, and it makes us feel that our circumstances are so much more dire than those of the past, which are so easy to forget, to sublimate.
