Favoriting June 23, 2010: Scrantapalooza, with live sets from FULMARINE PETRELS and DAS BLACK MILK!
Here's your opportunity to hear two of the top acts from Scranton PA, aka the Electric City! Das Black Milk is making a return visit to WFMU, and their dark catchy postpunk-meets-90s sound will be pleasing to the ears of Bauhaus, Mudhoney, Joy Division and/or Nothing People fans. Their new album, Talk To Your Body, is out now. Das Black Milk are bringing along their brother band Fulmarine Petrels, who feature a distorted lo-fi garage-punk sound that combines elements of, say, The Oblivians and Thee Oh Sees. Catch both these bands live on Wednesday the 23rd, and check out leopardlibido.blogspot.com for more Scranton action, including free downloads!

Umed Jim:

Hey Evan,

Wednsdays are better for me-I hope it's working for you. I'm awaiting next years premium. There'll be another New Math song, right!?
  9:24pm
efd:

Hey Jim, nice to see you here in real time! I'm not sure how much deeper I can go into that New Math EP. :)
  9:25pm
worksdaily:

DANG!
This reminds me of the extra early (3 to 5 AM) shift they gave me at WOOVIT in Bleaksburg VA 'way back in '82. Kinda music made me situp and listen, tho nobody else did at that hour!
Hail to the DJ!!!
  9:25pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Flowers after dark sounds like ari-up the slits singing.. Thanks that was very good!!
  9:26pm

  9:33pm
john:

No Jaggerz medley?
  9:35pm
nec13:

After hearing that Donnie Iris song, I have a sudden hankering for IC Light and pierogies.
  9:41pm
efd:

nec13, I understand! I enjoyed both IC Light and regular IC on my trip.
John, maybe next week for the Jaggerz.
Cheri, yes it does but hopefully we'll all get used to it.
AZ, Marmalade Kitty and worksdaily, thanks!!
  9:42pm
cheri:

  9:44pm
efd:

thank you, mystery commenter! (I like scrantadjacent-palooza, btw)
  9:44pm
john:

Sorry--my comment crossed yours in the ether. I was actually asking about the Donnie Iris set just before you mentioned the album (we'll be hitting those stores in the next few weeks too), but we'd be thrilled to get the studio version too!
  9:44pm
efd:

Have a good night, Cheri!
  9:46pm
Joe:

These songs are all exquisitely named, so far. Sung and played, also, but the name is the thing.
  9:48pm
efd:

They're all leading up to the last song, which has the best name of all of them.
  9:55pm
efd:

to wit, the song they're playing right now.
  10:44pm
Sybil:

What, no comments since 9:55? I've been cooking and eating dinner, that's my excuse.
Great background music for it!
I like this "naranja" - the singer's voice reminds me of someone.... who? It'll come to me...
  10:45pm
Marmalade Kitty:

naranja! Yeaah!!! I hear strong 80's new wave influence great x
  10:48pm
efd:

Sybil, I was wondering the same thing! Thanks for breaking the silence. And thank you too, Marmalade Kitty.
  10:52pm
AZ:

Must depart to go feed LJP (and me). Loved the Scrantapalooza! Very excited for Soft Tags next week; their live show in LA last Tuesday was phenomenal.
  10:53pm
efd:

cool, thanks AZ! My best to LJP as well.
  10:57pm
Taylor:

Javelin? Damn you, WFMU! Another CD I must now own.
  10:59pm
bennett4senate:

this csc funk band is funky into the other room
  10:59pm
ADM:

the FUNK is TOO HHOT
  11:02pm
Danne D:

Hi funk fans :) Hey efd! So any midseason fantasy baseball updates for your fans? I hear that Aharon guy is making moves :)
  11:04pm
Sybil:

luaka bop!

Speaking of funk, no Garry Shider? :(
  11:13pm
essence:

"la puoisson rouge"
  11:14pm
Pruppets:

Beloved Aunt.
  11:15pm
Danne D:

:( My phone is a pain and can't see comments past the first few. Ugh.

Always fun to hear Evan say Le Poisson Rouge :)
  11:20pm
Sybil:

I'm listening to WFMU on the stream and watching 2 baseball games simultaneously on my computer while mucking about with work - related stuff. So the whole thing crashed, and I totally missed the 11 o'clock ticket tocket or whatever we're calling it... What *are* we calling it? (By "we", I mean "efd", of course.)
  11:22pm
Danne D:

ESPN was totally crashed all day with the World Cup Game (USA! USA!) and then that epic Wimbledon match that still has not ended.
  11:24pm
minnesota jeff:

I've heard that despite how legendary that Wimbledon game is, its been some fairly poor tennis. Just evenly matched.
  11:25pm
john:

Sybil---sounds like the perfect evening! Got anything to eat? We're all famished!
  11:26pm
Sybil:

I think I might have some rosemary and olive oil potato chips around here somewhere...
  11:28pm
Danne D:

It's awesome cuz it's just such a test of wills at this point :)

I think they are playing awesome for guys who played 7 hours straight today. I mean they still were uncorking 120-130 mph serves which is amazing. Very few unforced errors or double faults. Pretty amazing
  11:29pm
cheri:

efd--just like the weather this week,,,your shows are always hot!!! keep on rocking!!
  11:29pm
minnesota jeff:

Yeah I read all the records broken and its just really crazy how neither can overcome the other. When I say "fairly poor" its just that its not been very volly heavy, lots and lots of aces.
  11:31pm
efd:

I still don't know what to call the ticket thing! I'm still trying to figure it out.

Danne, I'll see if I can squeeze in a fantasy baseball update before the end of the show!
  11:40pm
minnesota jeff:

"Throwing Tickets at eleven like strikes from Burt Blyleven"?
  11:41pm
efd:

I'm circling you, Jeff!
  11:41pm
jmd:

My latest, greatest shame is that it took me several minutes to figure out that the Plimsouls track was almost thirty years old.
  11:41pm
Danne D:

Tix be home by 'leven?
  11:42pm
Sybil:

One doesn't expect tennis to be a war of attrition, somehow.
  11:43pm
Danne D:

You could you it's 5 o'clock somewhere by jimmy buffet and just say 11 instead ;o)

okay maybe not.

Au contraire Sybil - I've played my share of matches that have seemed that way :)
  11:43pm
Sybil:

Wait, how did the Red Sox lose?

Dang, I'm getting old. I can only pay attention to three things at a time.
  11:44pm
minnesota jeff:

I've never been circled by Burt, but EFD is next best!
  11:44pm
Danne D:

El Evan O'clock?
  11:45pm
efd:

Giambi hit a 2-run walk-off HR in the bottom of the 9th, my phone told me.
  11:46pm
Sybil:

Tell your phone to shut up, then.
  11:47pm
efd:

believe me, I've tried!
  11:47pm
minnesota jeff:

Does Giambi still have the Sgt. Slaughter mustache?
  11:48pm
Joe B:

Giambi must be back on something
  11:48pm
Danne D:

Well Morphine has a song called Eleven O'Clock, Evan :)

My pitching numbers are way better than i expected this week considering Burnett gave up like 50 home runs in that game
  11:49pm
minnesota jeff:

Maybe its just a Rocky Mountain high?
  11:50pm
john:

I seem to be setting some kind of record for home runs by guys I leave on the bench. My B team rocks!
  11:52pm
Danne D:

G'night funk fans :)
Thanks for the tunes El Evan!
  11:54pm
efd:

goodnight Danne! Thanks for stopping by.
  11:55pm
john:

Such a wonderful little song. Glad you played it again!
  11:56pm
efd:

I'm gonna try to make that a summertime hit! On this show, at least.
  11:57pm
john:

You just did!
  11:58pm
Sybil:

It is very uplifting, for a song that is really so wistful.

I'll say goodnight now, before I crash my browser yet again! Thanks for the music!
