A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:09am
ffrr:

Looks good to me. Cheers all.
  9:10am
still b/p:

I'm on the Macarthur Park bench!
  9:11am
Andrew:

I've heard of Macarthur Park, but I didn't think it was by the three Degrees. I only know When Will I See You Again, by them.
also Hi Trouble ^_^
  9:13am
luh3417:

Howdy, looks perfectly legible and, matches the picture nicely. Gosh that looks Frida Kahlo ish
  9:13am
Marmalade Kitty:

morning Trouble! It' be great to track down the Train manager/announcer.. I'm sure she'd be thrilled with the airplay :)
  9:15am
still b/p:

There are at least 50 covers of this. Play - them - ALL!
  9:15am
Jack:

Hey! Someone left the cake out in the rain!
  9:18am
luh3417:

BTW the track drilling an ocean mix the artists are grie gut and frakton remixed by mika vainio album is rekonstruktion
  9:19am
glenn:

and then follow that with the 2 million covers of stairway.
  9:21am
sugarwolf:

Someone left the cake on the stairway to heaven?
  9:22am
glenn:

the lady who's sure has a bit of a sweet tooth.
  9:24am
Andrew:

you ever get the feeling you just skipped dimensions?
  9:25am
BSI:

@Andrew: jeez... I have yet to figure out how to nail myself to just ONE dimension for any length of time. Talk about losing one's bookmark...
  9:26am
trouble:

thanks luh3417, there is a bit of a confusion there, thanks for sorting it out
  9:27am
still b/p:

'Cuz you know sometimes cakes have tomb eatings.
  9:27am
BSI:

great thick vibe with this d.regina tune...
  9:30am
miketp:

just got in like to add a story about mcarthur park. went to hi school with a keyboard player. he had a band and they were playing at a local grammar school. they did a couple tunes then they launch into mcarthur park with drummer larry singing lead vocals like an angel. couple months go by larry knocks on my door with his slingerland drum set , hes going to canada needs money. he sells me the set of drums for 100 bucks goes to canada never heard from him since.that was a bleak moment for larry and me. i missed vietnam by 2 years, dont know if i would have gone to canada. ill never know. mcarthur park very special memory. larry where are you?
  9:35am
Andrew:

wow, this is a different cover version. It's always interesting when someone does a cover totally different to the original/famous one
  9:35am
glenn:

a guy i knew had a 45 of wayne newton doing purple haze. it was surprisingly not completely horrible.
  9:35am
Parq:

Wheedle's Groove! On the first day of our Northwest vacation, we headed into the most touristy nabe in Seattle, only to stumble onto a free, midday, outdoor Wheeldle's Groove show. You never know ...
  9:37am
Jennique:

One of my favorite covers is Ella Fitzgerald singing Sunshine of my Love. This cover of Jesus Christ pose just scrambles my brain. I wonder what Chris Cornell thinks of it.
  9:38am
glenn:

even though purple haze is probably the most overrated, overplayed rock song ever, more so than stairway to heaven by a long chalk.
  9:41am
Andrew:

so um...that is the announcer on the train you are on Marmalade Kitty? i wondered what it was before & had to scroll up...
  9:41am
W i L d N e i l:

Trouble? You! Rock!!!
  9:45am
ausmanx:

Kitty, i think you need to purchase the excellent new limited edition release on the estimable Trunk Records... Jonny Trunk has pressed to vinyl a collection of buffet car announcements on the Midland line in the UK. it's a delight...
  9:47am
W i L d N e i l:

Lost in translation..what awful, shallow and bored people in an exotic location...cool movie, but the people were complete aholes...
  9:48am
moose:

best story i heard about DVF was that she smoked a 'J' in the white house bathroom back when such things were possible
  9:48am
miketp:

yeah but we got to see scarlett for a couple hours.
  9:50am
moose:

scarlett is easy on the eyes for sure
  9:51am
glenn:

plus a pretty good peaches tune.
  9:51am
Marmalade Kitty:

Ausmanx, yup..It's bound to be cheaper than buying a British rail Trai ticket! Ouch!!
  9:55am
trouble:

miketp: that was quite a story. btw all i have never heard the sound garden original, i looked up wheedle's groove, thinking it was an old song, so i was a bit surprised to read differently...
  9:56am
pgw in mntclr:

that mikki wilcox song was quite nice
  9:59am
Andrew:

I liked that movie. This song is great too. I wake up crazy every day...

yeh, that often happens with me, i hear a song & thought it was the original, but it wasn't. Like Juice Newton's Queen of Hearts...which I thought was by her...turns out it had been covered about 30 times before her.

wow, these last few songs have been great! ^_^
  10:01am
Jennique:

Trouble, I have such a strong association with the song Jesus Christ Pose, that time in my life and I was a big Soundgarden/Chris Cornell fan at that particular moment. Funny how some songs just release a flood of memories. So hearing it sung in a completely different way was just too hard for my brain to pull itself out of the original.
  10:02am
glenn:

paul pena's original of jet airliner is far superior to steve miller's, but not many people have heard it.
  10:07am
Andrew:

cool, didn't know about that, i have a clip on here now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjr5U7g6aiA
  10:07am
dc pat:

...'lo. Saw Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin last night, best show of the year...

glenn: you are correct sir.
  10:09am
dc pat:

Ty and crew will be at Bowery Ballroom on the 29th. Just go.
  10:09am
pgw in mntclr:

there's also an interesting documentary, "genghis blues", about paul pena going to mongolia to learn throat singing
  10:11am
Andrew:

yeh, just read that & he was also blind from 20yo.
  10:11am
trouble:

thanks for the good vibes andrew! good historical morning to you jennique, didn't mean to send you down a memory hole there...
  10:13am
glenn:

yep. genghis blues is great.
  10:13am
jill:

where's the "like" button on this thing? sounds great, trouble...
  10:14am
trouble:

the like button is in your ears jill! thanks!
  10:16am
Andrew:

also reminds me of when U cant touch this by MC Hammer came out & mum was telling me it was an old song & i was saying nah, it only just came out! cos I didn't know about Rick James' Super Freak at that point....

This Isley Brothers song is great
  10:17am
moose:

should i go press jill's ears?
  10:19am
jill:

yowza!
  10:20am
Leigh:

Hi Trouble! I'm a library student. Where does your husband work?
  10:20am
Marmalade Kitty:

Hello birdies :)
  10:22am
glenn:

it's quite surprising how many high school choirs perform spider pig, from the simpson's movie. another reason to love youtube.
  10:22am
Jennique:

Trouble - Greetings from le musée! As for the memory hole, it was a pleasant one, easy to climb out of and be topside.
  10:23am
Andrew:

good quote ^_^
would apply anywhere
  10:23am
MD:

That was cool...thank you for sharing that Trouble!!!!
  10:26am
trouble:

leigh my husband works at the paterson public library. are you local?
  10:26am
rjk:

Hi Trouble, someone actually removed me from their google+ circle for posting that Elizabeth Warren quote.
Great show, by the way...
  10:26am
Andrew:

I have a few high School songs from the 365 days project..i love Fox On The Run & Sunshine of Your Love. Also last Thursday I got a pile of CDs done via this project "Kool Skools" which take high school kids bands & singers & make an album per school, been going for many years it seems, these are all from 2006, all victorian bands. There's some good stuff! some are covers & some originals. our school never had much of a music class.
  10:29am
trouble:

rjk: why? i am befuddled... how does that quote bother?
  10:29am
trouble:

rjk:...oops and thanks for the good words
  10:30am
jill:

okay - i just keep pressing the "like" button in my ears...feeling,,,dizzy... and...weird...
big props to my fellow librarians out there.
  10:31am
trouble:

andrew: kool skools sounds great, can't wait to check it out!
  10:31am
rjk:

I know. We're both English as well. There are some strange people out there.
  10:31am
glenn:

because right wingers hate it when you point out that everything they believe in is demonstrably false.
  10:31am
pgw in mntclr:

well, if you're rush limbaugh, the quote bothers because it came from a woman
  10:32am
rjk:

And what Glenn said.
  10:33am
Andrew:

I was looking up that quote to put on my fb page & then i got to reading some comments...not being american some of it makes not much sense but it seemed like...the right wingers got shitty with it...
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?2827820-The-Elizabeth-Warren-quote-every-American-needs-to-see

wow, that throat singing came on just as i was about to send...that was unexpected!
  10:33am
stu:

Morning Trouble !
  10:33am
AndrewC.:

there's yr mongolians, right there!
  10:33am
Parq:

Back from my commute. I never knew "Jesus Christ Pose" was a Soundgarten song either. Makes sense that a soul collective from the Big Rainy would turn it into a gospel song. But then I'm an FMU listener -- I thought the Les Reines Prochaines recording "Opfer dieses Liedes" was an original, and knew it for a year before I first heard "Wicked Game".
  10:34am
Marmalade Kitty:

If I typed in green I wouldnt be seen! (btw what specific colour is it?)
  10:37am
Andrew:

hehe, the good ol cover of a song but in a different language ^_^
I like the cover of Help by Mme St Onge
http://www.wfmu.org/365/2003/009.shtml
  10:40am
Andrew:

this is the website for it: http://www.koolskools.com.au/
I wonder why I got so many at once? i got about 10, all from 2006! from an op-shop.
  10:44am
Leigh:

Trouble - I'm sort of local. I live in Brooklyn and attend Pratt. But, I grew up in NJ, so there's that. How does he like public librarianship?
  10:46am
glenn:

when are you going to play the vernon's girls again, trouble?
  10:47am
Marmalade Kitty:

we love da Beatles!
  10:49am
moose:

goodby everybody
i will leave the music on nice and loud to entertain the brutes painting my building's hallways (pink!)
nice show as always
  10:49am
Jennique:

Hildegard Knepf! You put this on one of your cds and it was one of my favorites. She's vunderbar.
  10:50am
Andrew:

ah this is great, the last 2 I have tol dmy friend about, cos she liked Adele & was asking for people who have similar voices. She would probably like these last 2 ^_^

I love WFMU so much ^_^

you are on my favourite shows list now Trouble ^_^

also, i like the library & did work experience at the school library.

who sings this talking song? or is it the end of jackie lee?
  10:50am
Andrew:

cya moose ^_^
  10:51am
trouble:

leigh: he loves it! paterson is a poor community with a lot of soul and he loves helping them. he works in reference. the perks are he orders music, dvds, curates music programs, writes grants, downsides: freaked out junkies who hang out in the library on rainy days. BUT he has made amazing friends with the patrons and is constantly engaged with his work
  10:51am
trouble:

hi moose! hi stu!
  10:53am
lewis:

is the Hildegaard Knef cut on anyone's premium (Trouble?) - or any pointers for tracking it down?
love the show!
  10:53am

'The In Kraut' is both a terrible and brilliant name. Perfect music for the mini heatwave in the UK, though
  10:54am
trouble:

glenn: vernon's girls next week it is!!
  10:55am

Bill Withers. Always good.
  10:58am

speaking of benjamen, i love his theme music. what is it?
  10:59am
Andrew:

been great music, thanks Trouble ^_^
  11:00am
Andrew:

ah never mind, i worked out the time wrong...
  11:02am

back to the social contract discussion, I really like this piece from WashPost the other day. It IS class warfare and was declared by the rich and powerful long ago: http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/president-obama-shouldnt-be-afraid-of-a-little-class-warfare/2011/09/21/gIQAmsBjqK_story.html
  11:08am
trouble:

hey there peter!! and lewis i did put that hildegard knef on a premium of mine from several years back, can't remember which one...
  11:09am
Andrew:

weird, i was just reading a site about 'international men wear a dress day' and also that male model andre Pejic who looks female...as she was singing you're a boy Im a girl...
  11:10am
trouble:

glenn it is wisdom of harry, says benjamen
  11:13am
peter:

Did you already say who the Artist of the Day on the playlist is? Hildegard Knef was two years ago I think... okay, kiddos a comin"!
  11:14am
glenn:

by?
  11:15am
Andrew:

That Massive Attack song was good! I am gonna tell my friend about it, as he is into them, but wouldn't have heard that. (he tends to only go for the latest album a band puts out)

This DJ kensei one is a good song

i was looking at this beforehttp://savagemandolin.tumblr.com/page/5
check out the hat on that guy!! he looks like an um 'festive' viking
  11:15am
trouble:

peter it is francesco clemente from his new series of tarot cards featuring new yorker friends as his muse. diane von furstenberg is the force on this one
  11:16am
glenn:

international men wear a dress day? aren't we emasculated enough already?
how about international men grow a pair day? i'd like to see that.
  11:18am
Quentin:

Waow, remix of the Roland Young tune from last week ?
  11:18am
Brian in UK:

Good day, trouble.
Is the painting depicting entrapment inside a honeycomb of infinity with a loving but imposing god-like figure. Or perhaps I'm reading too much into it.
  11:19am
trouble:

that is the artists's name glenn...
  11:22am
glenn:

right. i'm not familiar.
  11:23am
Andrew:

it looks a bit like a cow coming out of her uterus....

yeh, the dress day was meant to be something like, being man enough to wear a dress. but women wear mens clothes all the time. also, a kilt is a skirt & the scots are pretty manly men.

this guy Jamie Lidell has a nice voice
  11:23am
Jennique:

Brian in UK, as far as I can remember about Tarot cards, "the force" card or strength card is supposed to depict a female gently opening a lions mouth. DVF seems like just the lady to do it.
  11:24am
trouble:

me neither glenn, but it is a fab song and brian in the UK, i see " the force" as a wolf with a heart at the center of all the buzz (ummmm?)
  11:26am
glenn:

that looks more like a brown bear to me, but what do i know?
  11:26am
#K:

YES ORANGE JUICE I knew this sounded like Edwyn Collins
  11:26am
holland oats:

bradley tells it like it is
  11:27am
#K:

I can always count on you to play Orange Juice, Trouble. It is a good thing to be able to count on someone to do
  11:29am
glenn:

well, then it should be international men wear a kilt day.
  11:29am
Simon:

I saw Edwyn live over the summer - he's looking very chipper considering all the crap he's been through. That voice is still holding up. Heartwarming indeed.
  11:30am
Simon:

Great show by the way!
  11:31am
(-_-):

Ermmmm. Not mean to make you feel worse...but what a BIG MISTAKE!
I'm sure Jamie digs freeform as well.

Sorry Trouble.
  11:33am
(-_-):

Nevertheless another great show Trouble.
  11:34am
trouble:

HUGE mistake! i seriously super regret it....it was a crazy week when jamie came thru town and yes i am a big goofball, will live with that , gulp
  11:34am
trouble:

simon: great to hear!
  11:36am
trouble:

and thanks, simon
  11:36am
Jennique:

From wikipedia: The modern interpretation of the card stresses discipline and control. The lion represents the primal or id-like part of the mind, and the woman, the 'higher' or more elevated parts of the mind.
  11:36am
Brian in UK:

May I suggest forces down to the change of seasons right now. It seems to take a week or two to adjust. Browning & falling of leaves, chill in the air, misty mornings, you know the rest.
  11:38am
i love non:

great show!! - Protection- such a song- forgot how good it is... perfect choice of mixes. thank you :)
  11:38am
trouble:

jennique, i am down with that explanation...
  11:39am
Brian in UK:

Eyes of the sourcerer. Ojos de brujo
  11:42am
Jennique:

Me too Trouble. But I agree with you about the heart shape. One of the first things I saw. That could either be a lick of flame in the center? Or just a tongue from the lion's mouth.
  11:42am
trouble:

eyes of the sorcerer, love it
  11:45am
Brian in UK:

Why is the heart symbol that shape when the physical heart is a pumping lump?
Discuss.
  11:46am
Andrew:

the heart shape looks more like an angled view of the inside of the lion's mouth, the flame bit being it's tongue.
  11:47am
trouble:

oh becasue as jennique just pointed out it looks like a licking flame...
  11:47am
Andrew:

if you think like a muppet like Kermit
  11:48am
Jennique:

Andrew - like the muppet idea. I would pose for the tarot card painting of a woman gently opening Kermit's mouth. Or maybe the Cookie Monster?
  11:48am
Andrew:

I have wondered that too Brian.
  11:51am
stu:

I guess I'll wear my kilt today
  11:52am
trouble:

best to wear the kilt before the snow falls stu...
  11:53am
Andrew:

hehe, I was saying to my friend earlier about sesame st & cookie monster, he's not a monster anymore? and Oscar isn't a grouch...
this minimal song is nice
  11:54am
Brian in UK:

Q Is anything worn under the kilt?

A No, it's all in perfect working order.
  11:55am
Andrew:

hehehe
  11:59am
Donny Osmond:

And they call it....pumping luuuump....
  11:59am
Andrew:

awww O_Q

thanks trouble, for a great show & thanks everyone ^_^

cyas next time
