Listener comments!

  9:04pm
Holly in NC:

First??!!!!!
  9:05pm
Stevel:

Hey? Hey!
Darn you HiNC! Aren't you here earlier than usual?
  9:07pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Evan & Steve1!
Yep, I am quite early. Because I have left my employer of 8 years! Yay! (Also scary, scary, scary......)
Peter F. is speaking to me :-)
  9:09pm
justsheano:

hey, efd. I am listening to your show and have teevee on mute. Are you a better soundtrack for "Planet Earth: Desert Worlds" or "Mutant Bees?"
  9:11pm
efd:

Hi justsheano! I'm gonna have to say "Mutant Bees."

Hi Holly, nice to have you hear early, and congrats! I trust your judgment re leaving your job of 8 years.

Welcome Stevel, nice to see you again today.
  9:11pm
Stevel:

Ooohhhh, adventure in the marketplace! Best of luck to you and your change. I made a serious shift about 4 years ago, (Newspaper photog to non-profit g rant writer/fundraiser) Glad I did, but took some guts.
  9:12pm
Richard from Venezuela:

nice to catch the show live. Good evening Evan and all the listeners.
  9:13pm
Stevel:

Yes efd, grateful for the GTDS stream tip. That was a nice show at noon.
  9:14pm
john:

Hey Evan! After one Wednesday flat on my back with a gawdawful stomach bug and another attending to Becky's family duties in Pixburgh, it's great to be able to tune in again. I mean, REALLY great. But my gosh, Peter Frampton went through a phase where he wanted to be Van Halen, didn't he?
  9:17pm
efd:

Hi John, nice to have you back! I know it's probably not a popular choice, but I have a real soft spot for that Frampton song. You could say that *I'm* breaking all the rules!
  9:17pm
jt:

i heard this song, Pinball once before, i was five years old in the back seat of my uncles volvo p2000. But now that i think of it it reminds me a great deal of Beta Band
  9:18pm
Stevel:

efd: Fishing for another Frampton retweet?
  9:19pm
Holly in NC:

Mutant bees. Oh yes, I couldn't have planned a better setup. Just wait 'til tonight's episode of Holly's scary creatures...

Thank you efd & Steve1 for your kind words.

Pinball is such a great song!
  9:19pm
efd:

@Stevel It wouldn't hurt! :)
  9:20pm
efd:

@jt, you totally nailed it with that Beta Band reference! Spot on.
  9:21pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans :)

EFD once again making me realize that I liked Charlie Dore very much in my youth without quite knowing who it was singing that song :)
  9:23pm
chris :: toronto:

It's time for the funk! Hi all.
Noticed Joe Belock hit some of that Hot Knives action this week. Have to think that efd had something to do with that.
  9:23pm
Thierry from France:

Not too late to wish everyone a HNY2012,
nor to recall a great 2011 EFD show: The Notekillers live set.
They had me glued to the speakers when it wired!
Amazing discovery, thanks!
  9:23pm
barkevious shabazz:

Brian Protheroe on early 70's prog radio in parents' red Torino. The first step is to admit you have a problem in the first place.
  9:25pm
Michael from the left coast:

Jake Holmes wouldn't sound out of place right about now
  9:25pm
Danne D:

Hi Holly :) Hi Stevel :) Hi sheano :) Hola Ricardo :) Hi john :) Hi jt :) Hi Chris and Thierry :) and barkevious (who obviously loves that Alabama player's name as much as I do), Hi Mflc :)

Good on EFD introducing Stevel to the magic that is Nazario Scenario )

Congrats on your new start, Holly! Maybe you can get a job keeping the stomach bugs away from john ;)
  9:26pm
efd:

@Chris, actually it's the other way around - Joe playing Hot Knives last week helped prompt me to play it on my show the next day!

Greetings Michael ftlc, barkevious s, Thierrry and Danne D
  9:27pm
Danne D:

ya'll know what time it is!
  9:28pm
miss cheri:

what's up evan & danne wonderful start evan,, how's the new year treating you??
  9:28pm
Randy in NC:

@Holly, you join me however in my case redundancy was not of my doing nor in my plans.
  9:28pm
Adam in Portland:

FUNK!
  9:28pm
Stevel:

It appears to be the proper hour for some sort of musical radio presentation.
  9:29pm
Adam in Portland:

Holy holllllllly!
  9:30pm
Michael from the left coast:

Lynn-Ette--
  9:31pm
chris :: toronto:

@efd oh I heard Belock playing after you but I'm clearly out of sync. Hi @Danne D
  9:32pm
George Remus:

Remus approves of this intoxicating concoction of homebrew.
  9:36pm
Holly in NC:

@Randy in NC -
I'm totally with ya! The timing was *not* my choice, but I was becoming a person I didn't like so I guess I appreciate the kick in the pants.
Hopefully my likable self doesn't end up in a cardboard box!

Sending all sorts of good vibes your way. If necessary, perhaps we can share a box ;-)

Hi Danne!
  9:37pm
Mark in VT:

peter framptom because of the vocoder interview today
  9:38pm
Julie:

wait, two floors? three or four different rooms? What kind of castle were you LIVING in, Davies??
  9:38pm
George Remus:

@Holly, some would consider this highly blasphemous to admit, but years ago I felt that same thing happening to me at Sub Pop Records, with similar results. I stand with you.
  9:39pm
Randy in NC:

@Holly, Thanks. In my case the company ran out of funding before what we were doing could be released to the market. Hopefully our respective redundancies will be short!
  9:40pm
Adam in Portland:

What an odd coincidence! All of that same info that Remus put forth applies to me. I stand with you as well, Holly. ;-)
  9:44pm
efd:

@Julie, a single-family house with a basement. Nothing fancy, I assure you!
  9:45pm
miss cheri:

great to to see again tonight julie...how are you feeling tonight? hiya evan
  9:45pm
Julie:

the word HOUSE makes me salivate, and it's not because I have a thing for Hugh Laurie
  9:45pm
efd:

Hi Adam in Portland, Randy, George R, cheri, and Mark in VT! Here's hoping all these similar employment situations ultimately work out for the best!
  9:46pm
efd:

(but that doesn't hurt)
  9:47pm
Danne D:

@julie - SURE you don't have a thing for Hugh Laurie...

Hiya cheri, Adma, Randy George R, and Mark (I think I got 'em all - oh wait HI JULIE)
  9:47pm
Holly in NC:

Wow! a lot of former & formerly unlikable Sub Pop employees here, who knew?
All I know is that I totally treasure my Mudhoney 7"s. And Screaming Trees' 'Time Speaks Her Golden Tongue'. If either of you had anything to do with those, thank you.
  9:48pm
Julie:

@Danne if he has a house..yes I'll be there for him
  9:49pm
Danne D:

I'm scared - I don't like that Stomach Flu is trending on yahoo
  9:49pm
Aharon:

Hello, all. Hello, EFD--loving the Heavy Timrd. And hello, Danne D, whose voice I believe I heard on another show recently. FMU: it makes all of us inadvertent stalkers (in addition to whatever advertencies we'd been working on).
  9:50pm
Danne D:

Julie starting her own House of Tomorrow fund? *

* - old school FMU reference there
  9:50pm
barkevious shabazz:

Devoto + mcgeoch. Eggcellent.
  9:50pm
Amanda:

  9:50pm
Mark in VT:

  9:51pm
Danne D:

Princess Amanda :) glad to see you here as well
  9:51pm
buddy:

  9:52pm
Adam in Portland:

  9:52pm
barkevious shabazz:

Ok for the trainspotters Dave Formula.
  9:53pm
Adam in Portland:

Amander! Wonderful to meet you here at the crossroads.
  9:54pm
buddy:

dancing just around joy division i see...
  9:55pm
Stevel:

From Hey Hey, to Whoa ey oh! What a long strange trip, and yet, its not quite ten.
  9:56pm
Adam in Portland:

This Lost Tribe is fantastic! Misfits meets Soft Moon meets Godflesh meets Jaz Coleman?
  9:56pm
Dave B:

Thank you efd for using a serif'd font...
  9:56pm
Amanda:

Same here, Adam! (At the crossroads, that is.)
  9:56pm
Julie:

Princess Amanda??
  9:57pm
Danne D:

Well Aharon had to be addressed as King (since he won the Fantasy Baseball League) and so I stock to formal titles in that particular comment.

You are a Princess as well Princess Julie
  9:57pm
Danne D:

(Terre is the Queen)
  9:58pm
Holly in NC:

I have a Rush baseball sleeve concert tee (circa Signals, unfortunately) waiting in the attic for 2112. Don't think I haven't been investigating freezing myself!
  9:58pm
Adam in Portland:

@Julie, Amanda eats cucumber sandwiches without the obtrusive crusts.
  9:58pm
Danne D:

(that is a schtick that will not continue btw as it will even annoy me)
  9:59pm
Julie:

@Adam which means she eats with her hands!
  9:59pm
Aharon:

Deposed already!
  10:00pm
Dave B:

@Julie - pinky extended
  10:00pm
miss cheri:

i'm wondeing if julie's still upset with me from the comment i made the the other morning,
  10:00pm
Adam in Portland:

I plan to freeze Geddy Lee, but have not, as yet, been able to get close enough to realize my nefarious plan.
  10:00pm
Amanda:

Lies! I usually eat with my hands tied behind my back, ie in eating competitions.
  10:00pm
chris :: toronto:

RT: @Dave B:

Thank you efd for using a serif'd font...
  10:01pm
Aharon:

Hard first 'a' in glossolalia, or so I've heard (and heard and heard and heard). Probably incorrect.
  10:01pm
barkevious shabazz:

RE:Mutan Bees: Upon first hearing The Deadbeats "Kill the Hippies", I thought the were saying"Kill, Kill, killer bees." After discovering my error I enjoyed it so much more.
  10:01pm
Danne D:

didn't say you were deposed, just won't constantly use the title :)
  10:02pm
Adam in Portland:

@Amanda, ...and a coachman just out of frame.
  10:03pm
Julie:

I confess that I have personally SEEN Princess Amanda face first in food. Of course, not saying I wasn't also, but there you have it :D
  10:03pm
Holly in NC:

Oh, I really, really love the Twerps. They totally get the mid 80s Citadel vibe. Well, the Died Pretty, specifically. Mixed with a wee bit of NZ/Flying Nun/Clean. Love!
  10:04pm
Julie:

Oh and HI AMANDA!!
  10:06pm
Adam in Portland:

My resolution for 2012 is to live a life more like that of Barry Lyndon.
  10:07pm
Dave B:

Hey Julie - another concert aggregator / social network for shows (I only just heard of it, so YMMV)

http://www.songkick.com/
  10:07pm
john:

For the record, I'd give glossolalia a long a as in male, despite its origin from the Greek λαλέω (speak), with the a as in father. Just saying, Pedantry break complete. Carry on.
  10:07pm
Amanda:

Love this Cloud Nothings track. Hi Julie!

Adam, good job. Mine was just to drink more water.
  10:08pm
Holly in NC:

Did someone say Mutant Bees?
I thought so!

http://tinyurl.com/7wf52mh

Fast forward to the last minute for the true horror.
  10:09pm
Adam in Portland:

@Amanda, by that I mean to smash more light bulbs, tear more bodices and take my iron balls to my trunk?
  10:10pm
Julie:

@DaveB oh yes I've got it watching some bands for me now
  10:10pm
Adam in Portland:

More iron balls, more iron balls. Hahahahaha.
  10:11pm
Julie:

Wasn't that maggie thatcher's nickname? Iron Balls?
  10:11pm
Stevel:

Hornets suck.
  10:11pm
barkevious shabazz:

I like Brian the dog's version of "Never Gonna give you Up."
  10:12pm
Dave B:

@Holly - all I can think of is Peanuts singing "Mosura" to that clip

Mosuraaaa!
  10:13pm
miss cheri:

i'm sorry julie let there be no hard feelings..ok?
  10:13pm
Julie:

Rick Astley http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lfwlaydm5Y1qzasa8o1_400.jpg
  10:14pm
Julie:

I've got hard feelings about everyone, they call me ol' iron heart
  10:14pm
Dave B:

In Japan the hand can cut wood!

But it can't do a thing to the giant hornet!

http://www.mnn.com/sites/default/files/user-993/hornet.jpg
  10:14pm
Julie:

I don't even know why Rick Astley was brought up but I like that gag
  10:15pm
Amanda:

I love Birds in my Tree also!
  10:16pm
Julie:

Birds in her tree and a hornet in her bonnet
  10:17pm
Holly in NC:

@Dave B -
Yes! Yes! Yes! (re Peanuts)
  10:19pm
barkevious shabazz:

It's a noose, not a gag.
  10:21pm
miss cheri:

julie,,you have a heart of gold!!
  10:21pm
Living Doll:

When does the lightbulb smashing start?
  10:21pm
Danne D:

Wow! Cherry Hill Park was in my neighborhood growing up.

I don't remember a Mary Hill though.
  10:23pm
Droll:

@efd What's wrong with the original of Cherry Hill?
  10:23pm
Michael from the left coast:

Ah, what a great record this is--oldies radio is doing its audience a disservice by not playing this
  10:23pm
Danne D:

see if I had made Julie's comment about feelings that woulda had a whole different vibe.
  10:25pm
efd:

@Droll, oh, nothing at all! I just always hear a heavy guitar version in my head when I listen to it.
  10:25pm
Holly in NC:

Re BJR cover: Greenhornes? Swinging Neckbreakers?
  10:25pm
G:

Been busy working but listening.

Holly driving the board buggy so early??? Where will things have gotten to by the final quarter-hour???
  10:25pm
efd:

@MIchael I actually heard that in a store a couple of weeks ago that was playing the Sirius/XM "'60s on 6" station.
  10:26pm
Danne D:

Cherry Hill Park wasn't particularly impressive btw - on a too long strip of land with not unrocky terrain/open field for a good chunk of it and then a single basketball court (hoops no nets), single funnel ball thingy and a picnic table. Oh and a couple swings and a springy duck and chicken and (I think) elephant.
  10:27pm
Adam in Portland:

@living doll, I'm in near total darkness *right now.* If I need more light, I'll burn some straw, or lending documentation.
  10:27pm
Danne D:

Whoa how awesome is that. Even the town calls Mosquito Jungle Mosquito Jungle! http://www.elmwoodparknj.us/recreation/parks.html
  10:27pm
miss cheri:

good night evan,,julie & danne cause i have to head out now i got to get up early see you all next week!!
  10:28pm
Dave B:

at first glance I read "single fennel ball thingy"

still, the serif'd font kicks comic sans' ass....
  10:28pm
G:

@Danne: Apparently you had a blog entry ready in your head about CHP, years before there were blogs.
  10:28pm
Danne D:

(they have since ruined the charm of Cherry Hill Park by actually get state money and making it, like, a legitimate park btw)
  10:28pm
dave:

holy crap, nmew palomar! and of course it's GREAT.
  10:28pm
Danne D:

LOL G and I don't even have a blog now - go figure
  10:29pm
Danne D:

g'night cheri have a good rest
  10:31pm
Danne D:

Btw, Mosquito Jungle is so called because, well, on the opposite corner of the park from the softball field (a long way away - like well beyong where the normal softball fence would be) is a large drain pipe that drains off runoff rainwater from nearby Route 46, making that section more swampish at times and good for mosquitoes to get busy in)
  10:32pm
Julie:

Get up early to see us?
  10:32pm
Holly in NC:

@G -
Sorry, have to learn to pace myself!
Which is not to say that I don't have something extra in my back pocket...
  10:33pm
Aharon:

Palomar=no label??? What the????
  10:35pm
Aharon:

@John Thanks for backing me up before!
  10:37pm
john:

Aharon, always a pleasure! Knew those semesters of ancientish Greek would come in handy one day, though I have to admit I didn't think this would quite be how.
  10:38pm
Dave B:

speaking of which, isnt it Mallomar season right about now?
  10:40pm
Aharon:

One never does, John, one never does.
  10:40pm
Michael from the left coast:

Dave--it's been Mallomar season since September
  10:40pm
barkevious shabazz:

Ask Carlos Alomar.
  10:40pm

  10:41pm
Michael from the left coast:

speaking of Carlos alomar--feast your eyes on this nugget featuring Sir Carlos Alomar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUdIH4hIAs8
  10:43pm
Carlos Alomar:

Don't ask me... ask Pablo Escobar
  10:45pm
Droll:

That's not a Carlos Alomar video -- that's a video of "a most promising young Kentuckian, Adrian Belew"
  10:46pm
Droll:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tWyIug2qP0
  10:46pm
Dave B:

What would Carlos Alomar (or Pablo Escobar for that matter) do for a Klondike Bar?
  10:46pm
Danne D:

@Barkevious congrats, btw: http://nameoftheyear.blogspot.com/2009/04/barkevious-mingo-lord-master-2009-name.html

  10:53pm
Julie:

I'm all about Company. And when I say Company I mean the old Sondheim Broadway show
  10:53pm
Danne D:

  10:53pm
Michael from the left coast:

Droll--Carlos Alomar is playing rhythm guitar in that video behind Belew
  10:53pm
Holly in NC:

efd, I am enjoying this set immensely
  10:54pm
Danne D:

  10:55pm
Julie:

aww sorry Danne
  10:56pm
efd:

Really a great show tonight. Super impressed. Haven't tuned in in awhile out here in san francisco, and its seems that i made an error in forsaking the mighty power of EFD.

Glad you've come back to the flock, Mr H

@Aharon - basically know what you want tickets to when you call - if you've won in the last 30 days you are not eligible - if somebody else snakes the tickets you wanted before EFD reaches your call you're SOL

Hey now! Do you know I actually have a certificate from the state of NC for reeling in a HONKING big king mackerel?

Though I don't deal with any live bait other than night crawlers. Crickets, bloodworms, ugh - I turn all girly & make someone else do the honors.
