A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

there is a funny story about their founding - a couple of people decided to form an orchestra in Wellington, and they just picked a random instrument for everyone to play. They said whoever was in their favorite coffeehouse that day could join. So that day was packed, and they all got a ukelele and the rest is history.

Someone told me "well you should celebrate love every day."
I said well, I eat everyday, but there's nothing wrong with celebrating Thanksgiving.

This is truly low budget. i'm making dinner from what I already had in the fridge, I made my husband's card and we're staying in watching TV. Valentine's Day out is too nuts for us.
  11:06am
kat330:

@Cecile: Same here, we always make our own cards for each other. If I don't cook tonight, it's only because I cook about every other night of the year.

For my sweetie and me, it's a bottle of bubbly, dinner from the northern Italian restaurant downstairs, and Day 2 of the Westminster Dog Show. And this year, a wirehaired dachshund (we have one) is in the running for Best in Show!
  11:08am
Cecile:

Ben Chasny is so frickin' talented and so humble about it (at least when I met him) that it's incredible.
  11:09am

@dc pat: Well, that's different. We often don't do Christmas either.
  11:09am
Cecile:

OOOOH, Parq! Dog show! i have it TiVod!
You have a wirehair? How are they to take care of? I kind of love bristley terriers and wiener dogs, and wirehairs are a nice combo.
  11:11am
Jennique:

On this Valentines day I'm going to a new fancy pants Italian restaurant with mio amore. Would lovelovelove to go to the Westminster show. Has a Boston terrier ever won?
  11:12am
Parq:

'Cile, we had a longhair years ago. Wirehairs, being historically part terrier, are more stubborn and volatile, but intensely loyal and quite lovable.
  11:14am
Cecile:

I don't know Jennique, but Bostons are adorable.

Parq, are they good about being left? We both work - we would make sure it would get walked and plenty of love, but are they the kind of dog that gets neurotic being left for 8-9 hours alone?

I can take white chocolate in small doses. My daughter got me a hershey bar for valentines day.

'Cile, mine is pretty good about being left alone, but I think that's from dog to dog. For instance, neither of our dogs bark at noises in the hall if no people are in our apt, but the dog across the hall constantly does so. You sort of have to take a deep breath and have faith.
Miss Trouble, dark chocolate ice cream with white chocolate chunks. Nuff freakin' said.

DC Pat, don't get me started. There are few things I like less than the way St Patrick's Day is celebrated in the US -- tacky green plastic novelty items, clownish clothing and watery domestic beer by the vat. Legacy Chocolate in Wisconsin (formerly also in St. Paul) and BT McElrath are my favorite chocolates. McElrath does odd flavors like Vosges, but I think he's more suave with his combinations. I still wouldn't be upset if someone gave me some Vosges though.
