A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

There's also that Rock em Sock em Robots movie from a year or two ago. Maybe my standards are too high. Good morning everyone. Off to work.

Good morning. Sad to lose Sendak. Here's a quote I love from him in 2parts:

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it.
  9:47am
triish:

..I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”

- Maurice Sendak

I didn't know Maurice Sendak was gone till I read it here. He was the speaker at my RISD commencement and gave a wonderful talk about making art for all the right reasons, to fight the good fight and to really say something with your work. I am still reeling over MCA being gone. I need to go lay down.

hey patrick, yes we hit the vna this weekend past. icepack made a killing on books and lego, me not so much, but it was fun. coffee shakes afterward at the pharmacy soda fountain. we almost hit duke farm, but no time. it has been open all along, we have been several times since the green houses closed, all great

@MK That's your first wish? You only have 2 left now.

Cecile, owning a mini elephant dog myself, I can tell you size is no issue. She's quite a demon in her own right and can only be placated by boiled chicken with peas or banana pudding.

One of the things I like to do, Trouble, to overcome withdrawals from enthralling novels, is to play a video game. I don't know what the policy in your home may be vis a vis dj Icepack. Over here, dj Kungfuflashkid is going on 7 and, having mastered Monkey Quest, he is delving into some massively multiplayer National Geographic playland.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am

capo strano, i HATE good book withdrawal. i feel all lost and of no purpose. am not a huge video game fan, just doesn"t thrill me, but perhaps a national geographic video game might... am plunging into a new book tonite, ghosts of the past fiction be damned
  10:50am
Capo Strano:

I try and leave layers of book overlap so as to avoid withdrawal, and consequently fall way behind in my gameplay, but I find they do make all kinds of good games these days. They are almost as good as Pong.

For books, it's most generally in a Balzac-to-Borges-to-Letham vein and, for games, I recommend anything designed by Tim Schafer, Will Wright, or Jonathan Blow. For music, I find DJ Trouble puts together everything I enjoy into a transcendent blend.
