  9:07pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Evan! Great start. I have to leave here, get gas, put air in tire, deliver dinner to a friend & pick up wine in exchange, go home & feed cats - *then* I'll be back! :-) I wish I had wings!
  9:12pm
Mike East:

good evening Evan, regular commenters.

@efd: for some reason your Hermes link is not working but this is: Love Goes To Buildings On Fire » Blondie cover Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” 1979 http://bit.ly/La526b

whoops - some bad html on my end, I'll fix it as soon as I start the next song. Thanks for the catch Holly!
  9:18pm
miss cheri:

ohh evan could you please play the tune "i started a joke" in honor of robin? it's also one of my bee gees tunes. hiya holly & danne

Matt from Springfield:

WFMU: We'll never leave your cake out in the rain...

Hi Evan, everyone!
  9:29pm
Mike East:

wow. Donna Summer doing Macarthur Park. I had no idea such a thing existed. Awesome. Thanks, efd.
  9:29pm
Mike East:

Hey Matt!
  9:30pm
G:

Yes, an oldie but a goodie, Mike. They even did disco-beat Beethoven and the like back in the day...
  9:30pm
miss cheri:

in my opinion i think donna & robin were much better than whitney
  9:31pm
Hmm:

Send a time machine back to EFD high school years, then you can come back, hear your show and punch self in face
  9:35pm
Mike East:

can you over boil potatoes?
  9:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

I liked that "Edge of the Universe"--never heard of that before. Blondie's "I Feel Love" likewise new to me. Fits Debbie well!
  9:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

Odessa! :)
  9:39pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

R. Crumbs illustration of punching yrself in the face in Bukowski's "Bring Me your Love" is sublime.
  9:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: If you boil the potatoes too soft, or of course boil the water out of the pot and burn the taters.

(When I was a little kid, I laughed at some line from TV about a character who was such a bad cook he would "burn spaghetti". Ha ha ha! That's funny, spaghetti's in water, how can you burn spaghetti!! Well once you start to cook and see how quickly water can boil away... :)
  9:40pm
SteveL:

Mike East: It depends. Are you trying to make paste?
  9:42pm
miss cheri:

evan tell me if you think that donna & robin was much better than whitney?
  9:46pm
Destroit:

hello efd and everybody. Good luck Danne, I'm watching :)

Hi Matt, Stevel and Destroit! Thanks for tuning in!

cheri, I'm not going to answer that question.
  9:54pm
a guess:

on 36 hours without sleep and 15 lines of coke, whitney could still sing mila kunis's wimpy ass under the table
  9:55pm
miss cheri:

i'm sorry evan,,i just lost my head there for a minute,, it won't happen again,, but i must leave for now but i'll be back later bye for now,,
  9:55pm
Mike East:

ok, I think they're good. Mashed potato casserole for tomorrow. I got nervous cuz the first set of music distracted me from what I was doing, but I don't think its too gluey. They seem to be delicious...of course I added butter and sour cream...
  9:57pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

The cover of "The Slider" and a hot Eva Green were the only interesting things about Dark Shadows.
  10:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yum..sour cream instead of milk. That will give a very creamy taste to it.
  10:01pm
Danne D:

game on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
efd:

Barkevious, who did the cover? I haven't seen the movie. (and hello!)
  10:04pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Pommes des terres. The silent killer.
  10:06pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

@EFD just the physical album cover. Glimpsed for a sec for cred. Pretty thin gruel.
  10:06pm
miss cheri:

efd-i hope everythings still cool.. see you a little later,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
efd:

ah! gotcha. Yeah, if that fleeting glimpse is a highlight that's not saying much (with all due respect to The Slider).
  10:10pm
Mike East:

silent but delicious, Barkevious
  10:11pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

I revel in the fact that I had both 2 Years On and the goofy Alan Parsons Poe record as a kid. Who's better now, eh?
  10:12pm
John L:

Alan Parsons???Once again you are raiding my high school memories. What's next, the Good Rats or Barnaby Bye?
  10:13pm
the glowing one:

do I hear a little she's lost control in there?
  10:13pm
SteveL:

Klaus Nomi feels love too.

Hey Matt! Hey EFD!

The packaging on the new Obits 7" is delightful.

Holly in NC:

feelin' alright with *this* crew, especially ;-)

Buttermilk is good in plain taters

Poach garlic in unconscionable amounts of heavy cream & butter for dinner party taters (see Julia Child Way to Cook)

My thanksgiving (the only time, these days, that I eat taters) is not complete with a mashed potato/rutabaga mix. Oh now I want some...
  10:39pm
Danne D:

GOOD GUYS WIN!
  10:39pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Where's my Lancelot Link Secret Chimp lunchbox?
  10:40pm
Danne D:

time to go run out and get a celebratory hot chocolate. will be on for a little bit at the end of the show :)

Tonight would be an archive night - I'm sure you can understand EFD :)
  10:43pm
SteveL:

Is it true Dave the Spazz is doing a LL Secret Chimp show/tribute tomorrow? I may have to plan ahead.
  10:46pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Whither Matahari?
  10:47pm
Mike East:

thanks for the tips, Holly!

I heartily endorse Tift Merritt
Guess what? The dbs release party is Saturday June 9 at Motorco Music Hall in Durham NC - and guess what? I live 3 blocks away!!! I know those of you that live in NYC or other large cultural meccas are laughing, but allow me a little excitement ;-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm

Holly, that's awesome! I'm so bummed that I'm going to be out of town when they play NYC next month.

Didn't Chris Stamey produce one of Tift Merritt's albums? Or more than one?
  10:52pm
SteveL:

Are those counter-point guitar licks in The Bevis Frond tune? Sounds pretty neato. (That's a college word.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
efd:

which word, "counter-point" or "neato?" ;)
  10:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: The dBs are awesome! Glad you can make it to their release party. You're probably at some advantage though for "Chapel Hill" band activities.
  10:55pm
miss cheri:

evan i always love when your on!!
  10:57pm
john:

Well, not quite two hours late, but that's the time difference to Pittsburgh, right? Love that Bevis Frond elpee! Which I just missed.
  10:58pm
Randy in NC:

efd, yes he did. And wouldn't you know, I'll be out of state June 9....
  11:00pm
Holly in NC:

@efd, I have no idea! I know they're friends.
@Matt - true. Folks in highly respected fmu-endorsed bands sometimes serve my food, & sometimes I babysit their children. To me that's just normal.
  11:03pm
miss cheri:

holly--which tune by the cake is your favorite??
  11:05pm
Holly in NC:

My Wednesdays are not complete until I hear Evan say "la poisson rouge" xo
  11:07pm

I enjoyed Dave Hills haircut circa "Sladest".
  11:09pm
some other guy:

Wait, so, it's not "La Croissant Rouge"? It should be..
  11:11pm

Danne D:

I was gonna comment how my supposed "unsurmountable" lead had been surmounted in the fantasy league and then much to my surprise I just saw that I somehow am back in first (temporarily) after a pretty awful night for my team.

The league has been fun this year, EFD. Seems like there's a lot more active and involved owners which makes it a nice challenge and that much more enjoyable.
  11:32pm
miss cheri:

night danne & holly

@Matt well, I tend to get a hot chocolate anyway. The tradition is about 2 EFD shows old :)

yes, Plimsouls!
  11:35pm
Danne D:

Hi Holly :)
  11:35pm
Holly in NC:

Thought this (the Plimsouls) was Robyn H. for a minute! Just a minute. Whatever, it's great.
  11:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne Well then as a historian/archivist, I'll catalog that under "emerging trend" rather than "respected tradition".

Also under "choco-lovers; New Jersey" :)
  11:36pm
Danne D:

:( I'm sad about the Court Tav - especially as I'm likely to spend more time in N.B. in the next few months :(
  11:36pm
Danne D:

LOL Matt do you keep a notebook on all commenters?
  11:38pm
Danne D:

I have always thought that a "best of the comments boards" would be an awesome WFMU premium. I'd probably have to be unempolyed and/or independently wealthy to undertake that however.
  11:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Notebook on all commenters? Goodness no. That's Ken's job :)

I would like a premium on Best of the Comments Boards, but there's so many fantastic threads and individuals I've seen that it would be impossible to fairly come up with the "best". BUT, perhaps the Blog could have a "Comment of the Week" entry or something like that! The best-received comment of the previous Mon-Sun cycle.
  11:50pm
Holly in NC:

Re the New Piccadillys: Misery is a cover of a 1963 song by The Dynamics - a song that the pre-Who High Numbers totally ripped off & turned into "Zoot Suit" ! Here's a link to the Dynamics: http://bit.ly/JTtMkZ And here's a link to the Who: http://bit.ly/JEJiem So good.

ah, thanks Holly! I misunderstood a note on the label.
  11:55pm
Danne D:

@Matt - with 10 years to go through it's an epic sift through. Heck een just doing it for the SUW comments would be an epic undertaking. Still would kinda like to do it one day :) It'd be like a bonus premium :)
  11:58pm
Danne D:

Anyway I gotta pack up :)
Thanks EFD :) for the good stuff I did get to hear. Looking forward to the rest on archive :D

Take care everyone!
  11:58pm

one issue, though, is that single comments don't exist in a vacuum -- how they look depends a lot on what is happening before and after them...

Good night, Funk Fans!

Holly in NC:

Thank YOU, Evan!
  12:03am
Matt from Springfield:

@G: True, although comments that need the context to be understood as funny could have one (or really, at most two) preceding comments to establish the narrative. The whole thread might be hysterical, but you can't just reprint the whole thing just for a single "punchline".
