hmmm. well, i grew up in the 70's. i wasn't so thrilled at the time.
  9:14pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Keith Morris of Off! namechecked that Sparks song as a major influence this week. Good taste.
  9:15pm
G:

When I moved from England to Brasil in 1974, the Brasilian kids wanted to know if she was actually Brasilian or something, because Quatro is Four in Portuguese.
  9:15pm
cubicle carl:

@glenn We couldn't wait for it to be the 80's.
  9:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Glenn, I didn't even exist until the mid-80s, yet I think the 70s ruled. That's the beauty of "retro", you get to pick which parts of the past you like!

Hello there everyone!
  9:16pm
G:

@cubicle c.: Somone was wondering where you were earlier today, maybe in Irwin's comments...
  9:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yes G, someone was wondering about cubicle carl (I didn't know him before then, so then I was wondering because of the question...)
  9:18pm
Kat in Chicago:

I was a teen in the 70s and they were pretty boring. Being a kid in the 60s was cool though. Being 50+ right now is pretty awesome unless you're trying to find a job :(
  9:18pm
Kat in Chicago:

Music has never been more interesting IMHO
  9:20pm

Is it 80s night?

Hi DD! No, not '80s night, merely a coincidence!

Hello to phat, Matt, glenn, Kat, G, seang, john, and the in-demand cubicle carl! Thanks all for listening and commenting, and thanks to everyone else just for listening!

I'm trying to decide if it's lame that I'm actually excited about the prospect of a new Ultravox album. In TWO THOUSAND TWELVE.
  9:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

Midge Ure back in the studio?
  9:24pm

What? New Ultravox?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm

john, I'm excited! If that makes me lame then so be it!
  9:24pm
glenn:

i am well, thanx.
  9:25pm
john:

And the rest of them, ex-John Foxx, of course. Title track sounded great, too. Called Brilliant--think 1983 'vox with an old squeaky Midge.
  9:27pm
phat:

I like this year.
  9:30pm
glenn:

why not? there's a new magazine album, although i haven't heard it.
  9:32pm

Kinda like Pink Floyd (Ultravox song).
  9:32pm

Don't forget Visage.

New dBs too? Jesus, where have I been? I really like this year.

It was Record Store Day--don't need just the specials, it's a good reason to look through the bins as well. I made a killin'!
  9:35pm
Deaconlight:

You know your friend Tim and Julian Cope's wife used to hang out in NYC back in the day.
  9:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Deaconlight: Really, Mike Quatro tried to get you to invest in his enterprise? What kind of enterprise was it?
  9:36pm
Deaconlight:

That Nantucket? From NC?
  9:36pm
Deaconlight:

Yeah. The Uzzell brothers.
  9:37pm
john:

I saw Ultravox in I think '83 in Hartford and it was pretty damn great too.
  9:37pm
Deaconlight:

New dB's -Falling Off the Sky - June 12.
  9:38pm

Matt - Sorta like the Bowie thing. Invest in the re-release of his records.
  9:38pm
G:

That still have that today. It's called Kickstarter! hahaha
  9:39pm
Deaconlight:

I have a Nantucket ticket stub around here somewhere. Deaconlight is hogging all the comments.
  9:40pm
Deaconlight:

Weird thing. Quatro rings me up. We're talking about Moog. He's going on about what pals they were. Moog had just died a day or so earlier and it was me who broke the news to him. He didn't know.
  9:41pm
Mike East:

Good evening everybody

  9:53pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Evan & all friends!
As a Neil freak I duly purchased Trans when it came out, & totally didn't get it. Revisited a few years ago & still learning to listen with new ears.

The Trans *tour* was great, at least the show I saw in New Haven!

@Matt - I think I could be your mom, that is disconcerting.

@Evan - fnx?

hey Matt :)

Can we really blame the cat? That would be awesome.

Danne D:

wow some Winnipeg chat and it's not hockey related!
  11:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: When you're volunteering, sneak some slippery oil onto the Studio A record player dial before Evan comes on! :)
  11:25pm
SteveL:

Winnepeg: Its not just for hockey anymore.

I'll just remind you all that radio is theatre of the mind.
  11:26pm
Danne D:

@Matt - slippery oil is reserved only for episodes of Shut Up Weirdo...
  11:26pm
Danne D:

@SteveL I think I made like one tweet about Winnipeg and some Winnipegbot retweeted me. I guess it comes up so infrequently that they need the little twitter boost.
  11:27pm
Danne D:

You know what would be kinda fun? If Andy can't do episode of SUW, having Evan be the fill-in co-host :)

Funk Up Weirdo! ;)

G:

How was/is the hot choc?
  11:31pm
Holly in NC:

Such a great reissue
  11:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Yeah, Andy C. would grease the record player. After being scolded he would be defensive, "I have the sheet on how to set up the board, and I thought 'grease the turntable' was definitely on here..." :)

I liked the fill-in Bryce did for Andy, I'm sure EFD would be a terrific co-host with Frangry.
  11:35pm
Danne D:

@G Hot chocolate tastes like victory :)

I think Frangry would have EFD blushing the entire episode :) Still think it has to happen.
  11:39pm
Danne D:

I have a great pic of Frangry and EFD from like the '08 Hoof N Mouth - but I can't find it :(
  11:41pm
G:

@Danne: Psst, someone ordered a break-in at your place, and it's "gone"
  11:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, LOVE this Ruckus Roboticus!
  11:44pm
Danne D:

@G - naah, my stuff is too boring to heist

@EFD in case you hadn't heard this - Meghan McKee tweeted that Boston's WFNX got bought by clearchannel. I know you like to keep up with all things Boston, even bad news.
  11:47pm
G:

Wikipedia, WFNX: "On May 16, 2012, it was announced that WFNX would be sold to Clear Channel Communications. The station's call letters, archives, and other intellectual property will be retained by the Boston Phoenix. The sale is subject to FCC approval. Fans are petitioning Clear Channel to keep the existing format and the station's support of local music."
  11:48pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - you didn't read Evan's or my tweets earlier today ! :-(
  11:49pm
Danne D:

@Holly I'm sorry :( been off the twitters for most of the day :( didn't know if it was new news or not
  11:49pm
Danne D:

Now Holly's mad at me :(
  11:49pm
Mike East:

Good luck petitioning Clear Channel, Fans.
  11:50pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne I so am not xo

I never heard FNX, but was it even any good anymore? WHFS lived on as a hollowed-out zombie long after it lost most of its credibility in the early 90s. WOXY.com survived as an awesome online-only indie station for a while, but didn't get enough commercials and didn't do pledge drives, and finally ran out of cash several months ago and was abruptly shut down....

Danne D:

I have temporarily taken back the EFD fantasy league lead. But I know Evan is just letting me borrow it. Though I'm borrowing a page from Skirkie and going with the Wall of Starting Pitchers approach on Saturday!
  11:56pm
Danne D:

(Said approach will probably lead to Evan retaking the lead of course...)
  11:56pm
Social Media Cops:

changing the subject, uh huh, that always works...
  11:59pm
Danne D:

Thanks for a great show Evan :) will have to re-listen on archive :)
Sorry for the social media fouls :)
Have a good night everyone :)
