A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

bonjour pierre!
  9:09am
cool fool:

this track sounds like it's a david lynch version of this is the modern world
  9:26am
pierre:

Do someone know if there's a name for the kind of sound that saxophone have in NOIR/DETECTIVE movies ? The kind of sound that you have in the Blade Runner ost ?
  9:28am
BSI:

adanowsky...!
.....my hands.......... my hands....... MY hands....
  9:29am
BSI:

g'morning all...
  9:32am
pierre:

Bonjour BSI !
what's up with your hand ?
  9:34am
BSI:

...Pierre!
It's a semi-obscure reference to the Jodorowsky film SANTA SANGRE (also adanowsky's fine work) ... essential viewing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
trouble:

pierre:adanowsky is jodorowsky's son.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

today's artists is julian trevelyan " my garden" , sorry it is huge apparently...

@Trouble : oh yes Adanowsky "j'aime tes genoux"… you play it from time to time ! thx

@ BSI : thx for the tip, this will be seen as soon as possible.

Jennique:

Morning Trouble! Biked to work this morning and now I am exceeding my sweat output. Must find some salt pills, or maybe some beer nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am
trouble:

jennique! i thought of you yesterday when we were driving home from RI and came down along west side highway. that is a long ride, water up girl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am
trouble:

good morning cecile
  9:53am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I was sweaty yesterday and a handful of pistachios tested pretty good afterward.
  9:54am
Cecile:

morning, trouble!
jennique, some lovely salted cashews would be good.
  9:55am
Jennique:

Not a bad ride, about half hour total. My current favorite are Trader Joes low salt pistachios, though cashews and macadamias rate high on my list. Wow, now I feel like Christopher Guest in Best in Show where he starts naming off nuts.
  9:56am
still b/p:

Thunder almost throwed me out the bed before dawn this morning. More storms coming later -- please not when the bike ride home will make me a lightning attractor. Amen.

there are much worse films you could cast yourself in. that is such a great film! anyone see moonrise kingdom this weekend? i wanted to but sadly not a minute to spare for such a luxury.
  10:04am
pierre:

aye, i did see it.
Liked the way it talks about the begining of sexual behaviour in pre-teenagers, but i found it weird that kids in W. Anderson have no smile at all, or very vaguely.

I LOVED Eward Norton in that movie.
  10:04am
Cecile:

I imagine myself in the frantic helicopter scene in Goodfellas a lot.
  10:05am
Cecile:

hahhahahahahahaha
I did go to charm school!
  10:06am
Cecile:

I feel ya. I pick on the phone on my co-worker's day off, and mostly it's people sounding vaguely disappointed or pissed that she's not there. SORRY.
  10:09am
Cecile:

good for you.
  10:10am
Vivian:

Those guys are complete a-holes. Trouble, you did the right thing.
  10:11am
Van in DC:

good morning trouble and everyone. Dang. I missed Sandy Denny.
  10:13am
~L:

I sometimes keep a thermometer is my car, as I heard that on a hot day a car with closed windows can heat up to 110 degrees in ten minutes. I have also seen the police respond to calls of dogs locked in hot cars. So it may be a crime.
  10:14am
Cecile:

this is on Matador?
This is the kind of music Gerard Gosloy used to mercilessly and hilariously rip in the 90s.
  10:14am
~L:

in my car, that is.
  10:14am
Cecile:

I mean the 80s. Jeeeeez.
  10:15am
ffrr:

Death by sundress. Go Trouble!
  10:15am
Ken From Hyde Park:

What is needed is a dog heat-index chart, similar to a wind-chill chart. Say, 85 degrees for a dog is equivalent to 147 for a human. Then let those jokers bask for 5 or 10 minutes at 147 degrees and see how they'd like it.
  10:17am
Ken From Hyde Park:

....while wearing fur coats.
  10:19am
Cecile:

...and only having sweat gland in their tongue and feet.
  10:19am
Adrian in London:

So a nice parcel arrived yesterday, full of Marathon swag. Thanks. Looking forward to listening to premiums/wearing t-shirt. I've been cycling to work this week too Jennique.Took a 'short-cut through some woods and ended up careering across a golf course at 7.30 in the morning.
  10:20am
Andrew Waterloo:

still waiting patiently for my swag :)
  10:28am
Cecile:

this is one of my favorite songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am

me too!
  10:32am
Jennique:

Adrian - that sounds great, be mindful of flying golf balls to the cranium! The route I take puts me past such great landmarks as the Little Red Lighthouse at the foot of the GWBridge, a wooden planked bridge over Amtrak railroad lines and a giant waste treatment plant that I fondly call the "poop factory."
  10:36am

oh wow -- BOLL WEEVIL chilling!!! (thought that was Karen Dalton at first!) and now LONG BLACK VEIL (never heard this version before) THANK YOU, Trouble!!!
  10:57am
Jennique:

I whole heartedly agree with the dog heat-index chart. My dog's cooling technique involves flattening her belly onto any cool surface and looking like Superman or a frog.
  11:00am
Andrew Waterloo:

It's raining outside, and there is a man with an umbrella cleaning his car.

feeling it.. the reggae tunage.......

thanks hector. and to clarify: i hate mitt romney, also.

Brian C.:

My son used to say "mines" too. Being about 2 yrs old, I thought it was pretty cute. Despite living here in NJ, he has learned to speak more properly in the last 10 years.
  11:10am
herb:

when i was in 7th 8th grade, i'd say "mine's" too. but i meant it as "mine is", and not "mines". well, i guess it depends on what IS is.
  11:10am
still b/p:

The birds remind me that when hiking on Sunday, I thought for about the 115th time that I gotta learn to ID the birds I hear.
  11:11am
Cecile:

It's one thing to resist change when you are young and inexperienced. It's another thing to know what works for you when you are an adult.
  11:12am
jojo:

yes, the vid is great. my wife was less fond of Yoga girl, although it is maybe funnier esp to a male audience, that dave is a funny dude
  11:14am
Cecile:

I also liked "You're not Berkeley enough"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am

i agree with your wife jojo. haven't seen you're not berkely enough. must look
  11:21am

i know have it on my mind, constantly…
  11:46am
Galganga:

Is this still Duke Ellington?
  11:48am
Jennique:

Trouble, just started Jeffrey Eugenides book The Marriage Plot. Opening scene takes place at Carr Haus, with a hung over Brown student entertaining her visiting parents in for commencement. Looks to be a good 'un!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am

sorry galganga i was a bit slow on the add button.
  11:51am

Vaguely Sparks-esque vocals in this. Weirdly cool.

my last group use to cover an Italian communist song that sounded a lot like that last one..
  11:55am
Jennique:

The waiting list was about a month, which I suppose isn't so bad. Speaking of Providence, I will be up there in mid June for a conference. Need to pick yer brain about where to go since I haven't been back there in over 10 years.
