Favoriting November 7, 2012: Singles Going Seventies vol. II!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

This special show was originally going to be part of WFMU's 31 Days Of October silent fundraiser, and then Hurricane Sandy and its post-tropical friends hit Jersey City and much of the surrounding area, knocking us off the air and making it impossible to broadcast from our studios. After picking up the pieces we found ourselves in a $250k financial hole due to costs and lost revenue from the cancellation of our record fair, equipment damage, and the fact that the storm hit during the last week of that silent fundraiser.
So, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Hell And High Water emergency fundraiser! We're breaking our silence and asking on the air (in addition to online) for your help as we try to recover from the storm.

  11:09pm
Rickwaukee:

OK - haven't heard Son of My Father in 35+ years - but member it
  11:09pm
john:

Weems, if you're now visited in the night by the ghost of Carl Wilson's dog, you brought it upon yourself.
  11:09pm
G:

Is someone taking depositions on the board? If so, make sure to swear people in before cross-examining them :-)
  11:10pm
Holly in NC:

Stones Emotional Rescue? And hey is anyone else hearing rip/homage to Doobies' Black Water in last song before efd's mike break?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
efd:

@rickwaukee, maybe I should call this show "'members only."
  11:10pm
steve:

cool synth solo!
  11:11pm
G:

The Chicory tune was the first UK chart no. one song to use a synthesizer prominently, so quoth wiki.
  11:11pm
Danne D:

Love this song from one of your premium CDs Evan :)

Of course those new around here should know that one can obtain EFD premium CDs by pledging to WFMU - now more than ever the station needs your help. It's easy and it keeps great music coming your way :)
  11:11pm
Rickwaukee:

Got? - Family of Man - 3 Dog Night
  11:12pm
Danne D:

  11:14pm
flashback:

  11:15pm
G:

wiki: "Chicory Tip only released a few records in the US, and their name was shortened to just Chicory for the US market."
  11:15pm
Tom - K'way Bklyn:

break time yes
<<< not doing the Snoopy Dance to the Coffee Pot .. wee..
  11:16pm
Weems:

@john: Conjures the notion. What is the worst hot song of the 70's?
Gotta Go with Seasons in the Sun by a nose over Angie by the Stones.
  11:17pm
Weems:

Hit song that is
  11:19pm
john:

@Weems, that would have to be the worst song of all time, "Lights" by (pardon my French) Journey.
  11:20pm
Holly in NC:

Built this City by a mile ...
  11:21pm
Glenn L:

5705! Was hoping you'd play this one!
  11:21pm

  11:29pm
Weems:

We Built This City is. 80s. What is worst of the 70's. funk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
efd:

Weems, I'd have to put "Blind Man In The Bleachers" way up there.
  11:31pm
john:

I'm sticking with Lights, but that's tough competition!
  11:35pm
Barkevious Munchie:

Stillwater. Sweet christ.
  11:35pm
Rickwaukee:

Weems don't like Stones' Angie - would you prefer Helen Reddy's Angie Baby????
  11:36pm
Holly in NC:

Any number of Billy Joel options...
  11:36pm
mb:

hm, never realized it before, but I wonder if Zappa was ripping on Mink with Jones Crusher, the similarity could be coincidental or parodiotic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
efd:

Just the reaction I was looking for, Barkevious.
  11:43pm
Weems:

Def prefer Angie Baby over Stones Angie. Helen Reddy was hot! I Am Woman is a kick ass song. No joke! Love it!
  11:43pm
G:

B side of Wings ""Mull of Kintyre", which is really well known in UK, not so well known here
  11:45pm
Barkevious Munchie:

Can Anti Pasti's No Government be far behind?
  11:46pm
Rickwaukee:

Haven't heard Mull O'K in quite awhile - gonna hafto Tube it
  11:48pm
Julie:

isn't this with Elton?
  11:48pm
Julie:

Or am I thinking of some other Elton duet
  11:48pm
G:

I get the impression Mull/Girls School was really a double A side, and in the US the rocker Girls School got play that Mull (the big hit in the UK) would never have gotten here...
  11:48pm
steve:

finally, some flute!
  11:48pm
12539:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
