OH YEAH! TIME FOR THE EVAN DAVIES FUNK SHOW!
  9:06pm
Danne D:

Hi ALL CAPS MAN :)
Hi G :)
  9:06pm
G:

ZON! :)
  9:07pm
sweet cheri:

happy holidays evan and to one & all. let the funk begin!! lookin forward to a fantastic show evan.
  9:07pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Zon? Styx tribute band?
  9:07pm
phat:

It's been quite a long time since I've listened to Teardrop Explodes. Nice.
  9:08pm
G:

wiki: "Zon was a progressive rock band formed in Toronto, Canada, in 1977. The band consisted of vocalist Denton Young, guitarist Brian Miller, bassist Jim Samson, drummer Kim Hunt, and keyboard player Howard Helm. The band released three albums over the course of its career."
  9:09pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

and the julian cope revival starts.........now?
  9:09pm
phat:

I'm not opposed to a Julian Cope revival.
  9:11pm
Neolithic Man:

@phat: Ditto.
  9:12pm
sweet cheri:

evan i hope you had fun on your time off last week,
  9:13pm
phat:

Yikes. This is a recording I would never have expected to exist.
  9:13pm
Neolithic Man:

Is cheri a Julian Cope fan, or an obscure prog fan?
  9:15pm
john:

I actually have this single, which is in no way an endorsement of Morrissey's single-handed resuscitation of Sandie Shaw's career (though her cover of Hand In Glove was rad). Becky said she just thought Sandie was old at the time. At 38, mind.
  9:15pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Cheri is an American treasure. Welcome back.
  9:15pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I really enjoyed that Sandie Shaw, the zon as well
  9:16pm
Neolithic Man:

She's sui generis!
  9:16pm
Andrew Waterloo:

hmm.. I think I bought a Zon album once. I know I've at least touched one.
  9:18pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Its badge of pride-worthy that Lloyd Cole does the suburban dad thing in New England.
  9:21pm
G:

wiki: In 2006 Camera Obscura made an answer song called "Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken".

Hey everyone! Thanks for tuning in tonight, great to see all of you here. I'll hopefully get myself together to comment more later!

(I've played that Camera Obscura song on my show, by the way)
  9:25pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

This Good Bread Alley is the catchiest, kookiest thing ever.

  9:33pm
sweet cheri:

happy holidays danne!
  9:34pm
Andrew Waterloo:

we're supposed to say zed
  9:34pm
PB:

Yes EFD, they definitely say zed in Canada (they also say Zon was a typically horrible Canadian band).
  9:35pm
PB:

Best album of 2012 was Oshin by DIIV.
  9:38pm
PB:

Honorable mention to Tender New Signs by Tamaryn, Slaughterhouse by the Ty Segall Band and Radar Eyes self-titled album.
  9:43pm
sweet cheri:

evan just as i told monica that she's the queen of sunday nights.. i want to let you know you're the king of funk every wednesday night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
efd:

speaking of Tamaryn...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
efd:

thanks cheri, I appreciate it.
  9:44pm
Danne D:

Hiya cheri - hope you're having a happy holiday season.

Thanks for your usual greatness EFD. Btw, what do you think of the new Red Sox manager?
  9:45pm
PB:

efd, nice. My favorite track from the new Tamaryn album. Very cool.
  9:45pm
Mr. ACM:

This Tamaryn album was pretty good but it didn't really stand out to me. However, every time I hear any of you FMU DJs spin a track I immediately check the playlist to see what it is because I like the song. I don't know, maybe it works better for me in 4 minute doses than a full 40 minute album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
efd:

Tamaryn did a live set on Dark Night Of The Soul a couple of weeks ago - you can find it in the archives.
  9:47pm
phat:

This is fantastic.
  9:49pm
Danne D:

Gotta Moody Blues thing going on with this one :)
  9:50pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@ACM, could be that the incidental nature of hearing it on the radio too
  9:51pm
G:

@danne: in your wildest dreams.
  9:52pm
sweet cheri:

btw evan, are you going to have a christmas special later this season? cause i think that'll be fun.
  9:56pm
Sam S.:

Is it just me, or is John Cale starting to sound like Beck??
  9:57pm
phat:

Holy cow, that's brand new?
  9:57pm
steve:

Sam S i was thinking the same thing!
  9:58pm
Sam S.:

Good - I don't feel so alone now!
  10:00pm
steve:

i think we're approaching the singularity, and it sounds like 2000s beck
  10:01pm
Sam S.:

Maybe he's "ghost-producing"..!
  10:15pm
Mike East:

great music to fry eggplant to. Hey Funkfans!
  10:16pm
G:

that was one new-ass set right there, people
  10:17pm
SteveL:

Hmmmm, Hozac strikes again. Not a lot of duds coming out of there, (at least that get airtime.)
  10:18pm
Droll:

G, Yes, but they were all of legal age.
  10:18pm
Colfax Cloud:

Killer songs (out of nowhere) indeed! ~ http://www.facebook.com/ColfaxCloud
  10:19pm
G:

@Droll: but of course :)
  10:22pm
Holly in NC:

Hello Evan & everyone! Can't talk tonight, or listen much longer due to a week of heinous early rising (I should've been in bed 2 hours ago) but wanted to spread a wee bit of good cheer. :-) Yay for archives.
  10:22pm
Droll:

G, EFD pimps tunes, but it's important to be clear his FCC logs are always in order.
  10:22pm
G:

Jeez, A GIRL :P
  10:23pm
Mike East:

I swear to god, during that last set, I consciously thought to myself.."I hope he plays that Jobriath medley." Seems like you got my psychic message, efd.
  10:24pm
sweet cheri:

evan, sorry if i'm babbling on & on but as always i'm grooving on your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
efd:

ha, well done Mike East! Message received, apparently!

Hi Holly, thanks for the drive-by. Hope you get to sleep late soon.
  10:25pm
sweet cheri:

hey there holly.
  10:25pm
Danne D:

The Jobriath Medley makes me feel very uncreative
  10:26pm
Danne D:

Hi/Bye Holly :)
  10:29pm
Droll:

Holly, LTNS! Hello Goodbye! Early rising is good for productivity and meditative tasks.
  10:32pm
PB:

Never heard of Tim Maia but that was a great track.
  10:33pm
Holly in NC:

@Droll unless it's not ;-). I am a babbling incoherent unproductive very non-meditative wreck before 10 am, and always have been. 2 am, that's another story!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
efd:

PB, yes, that Tim Maia CD is a revelation!
  10:38pm
Mr. ACM:

That Dan Melchior album was probably my favorite of this past year. Props, EFD.
  10:39pm
Holly in NC:

Dan Melcior is a lovely lp , written in large part for a wonderful woman. Go Letha!
  10:39pm
Destroit:

hello EFD and everyone, enjoying the show, particularly the last half hour.
  10:41pm
Mr. ACM:

@efd Potty mouth!
  10:41pm
Joe E:

My girlfriend just popped in to say.... "Is this Dan?" she asks. "Melcior?"I ask. "Yes", I confirm. "So good," she says. "Indeed," I say. "Very much so."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
efd:

Hey Joe E! Thanks for tuning in! Nice to see you too, Destroit!

Mr. ACM, sorry to disappoint you.
  10:52pm
Danne D:

How about that B1G vs your ACC Holly? :) :P

  10:54pm
Joe E:

Wreckless Eric!!! This is why I listen to WFMU (Well... one of the reasons...)
  10:55pm
sweet cheri:

evan i have to head out now, so this is my last comment for tonight..also i guess you're not having a xmas show in the near future,, huh? g'night all!
  10:55pm
Danne D:

"Radio Heart" makes a great CD title :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
efd:

cheri, if you were listening to the show instead of just commenting randomly you would have heard me mention the xmas show coming up in a few weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
efd:

Danne, I agree! :) Can't believe that isn't the title track of that album.
  11:01pm
Semanticist:

c.'s really more rigid than random
  11:01pm
steve:

steve:

presented by the army... wow
  11:47pm
G:

they'll pay you *while* you study!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11:49pm
SteveL:

An amazingly conversational interviewer. Guessing Phil Hartman also had a set of The In Sound.
  11:50pm
steve:

i gotta get that Infinity People record
  11:52pm
Droll:

Steve, I believe that's "Today's Action Army", not to be confused with the socialist army paying people to go to college.
  11:53pm
Uncle Michael:

If you listen to enough of them it begins to dawn that a staffer did the interviews and Harry re-dubbed the questions and that he had no contact with the artists. Anyway, that's my theory.
  11:53pm
Droll:

"Socialist-Intellectual Army", that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
efd:

@Uncle Michael I support that theory, although that Mama Cass one actually sounded like they might have been in the same room.
  11:57pm
G:

re subsonics: cake with an upper crust?
  11:57pm
Uncle Michael:

I won't disagree since it's the first time I heard that one. Though it still sounds like a "phoner" to me...so I don't know about the same room.
  11:57pm
Andrew Waterloo:

wasn't there once-sided interview records released by the labels at one point?
  11:57pm
Uncle Michael:

Is this Highway Star by Deep Purple?
  11:57pm
Danne D:

LOL G - well "6" was the powerball
  11:58pm
SteveL:

Do other interviewees respond to Harry by name? (I do not challenge the pre-interview theory directly)
  11:58pm
Uncle Michael:

Andrew, yes...there was just one put up on Beware of the Blog recently.
  11:59pm
Danne D:

Thanks for a great show EFD :)
Good night everyone :)
  11:59pm
Deep Purple:

Nobody gonna take my world, I'm gonna race it to the ground
  11:59pm
Uncle Michael:

Yes Steve they do...some to the point of practically goofing on it.
  12:00am
Uncle Michael:

Harry was a very big deal as a jock for WABC so they would all have known who he was.
  12:01am
Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the great tunes efd!
  12:30pm
Cal Zone!:
