Today's show -- or at leas most of it -- will be heavy on stuff from the '80s. Just because.

YAY! I can probably listen to the whole show uninterrupted today! My officemate is off today and I've got a large project which affords me the leeway to tell everyone to piss off.

Always love hearing the music that was around during the 70s and 80s that I never had any exposure to. I get this vibe from Uncle Michael's excellent show, too, that alterna-70s I never heard through my radio at the time. Grateful for both your show and his!

With a little bit of tweaking, this '80s Bongos track could easily be from the late '60s.

More precisely, this Bongos track sounds a bit like "Shake Some Action" period Groovies.

AND -- this Crawling Chaos track certainly sounds very prog psychy, no?

@ljfw and all: I might have posted here earlier about a Kickstarter project, already well funded, to produce a film about the revival of the Flamin' Groovies. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/211524940/the-incredible-flamin-groovies-0

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I played a bunch of this album the other night.
I've said this many times before but I wish present me could go tell 1980s me that Chrome was THE SHIT!
I have no idea why I didn't realize that back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Rich in Washington:

I mistakenly thought the Chrome comp came out in 2014 (probably because that's when I bought it) and included it erroneously in my 'best of 2014' list. Oh well. Why not?
Avatar 1:28pm

Years are just an illusion anyway.

Went back to listen to Jim Fox, the other day. Love that, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm

This is from when SST Records had a fairly diverse roster.
Avatar 1:35pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, even people like Zoogz Rift.
Avatar 1:35pm
βrian:

Steve Fisk, Jim Fox … they sound like made-up names from a 70s TV detective show.
Avatar 1:36pm
βrian:

But Zoogz … not so much.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
listener james from westwood:

"Zoogz" could've been the name of some spirit Kolchak the Night Stalker had to exorcise.
Avatar 1:39pm
Tony Coulter:

If I had made a "best of 2014" list this EE Tapes comp "Insane 80s" would have been on it. It just made it into the year, in December, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Rich in Washington:

when the 90s Alterna-Bubble burst, I remember picking up tons of SST CDs and cassettes for dirt cheap, as they had gotten really wide distribution in somewhat mainstream retail outlets. Here in Portland OR, a retail chain opened long enough to cash in on the grunge/alternative thing, then transformed into a liquidation outlet when Cobain and company went the way of the post-Easter Easter duckling
