At 45 minutes+ each, I often skip past them when they come up on shuffle but when I have time to let one run, it's always rewarding. Listening to the four of them sit around the table and jam on live radio is kind of amazing.

	9:21pm Ike: I just read an article about Genius. It's yet another company getting millions thrown at it for talking a good game while actually doing, well, nothing much that will actually bring any cash rolling in. Maybe Sasha was attracted to the free Seamless food.

	9:23pm Gary: He might just be tired. I never liked his criticism, but I just sort of assume that the New Yorker isn't really going to ever publish music criticism that's going to interest me on any particular level.
	9:23pm Uncle Michael: That's my take too, Ike. I visited the site for the first time there in reference to something I'm playing on Friday. It was annotated by the person that made the piece. It's interesting as far as it goes. It basically gave me the provenance of various elements. I just don't see the market potential for this.
	9:23pm Gary: Doug, I'm not sure, but I imagine it's like close-reading in an English class or something.
	9:24pm Ike: Read this: nymag.com... The article contains annotation examples. Mouse over the yellowed bits to see the annotation (it appears at left on my desktop; overlaid on mobile).
	9:25pm Holly in NC: Dear God, someone please pay me to annotate lyrics. 6th grade I spent almost an entire year annotating/transcribing the Complete Beatles songbook - which only included LMHS compositions, so I laboriously added in every single song they covered, and every friggin' single "oooohh" & "aahhh" & "woooo" & aside in every dang song. In ink, after pencil drafts. So yes Gary maybe OCD. ;-)

	9:28pm Gary: I'm not entirely against close-reading in pop music ... the Public Enemy 33-1/3 book goes through at least one track and lets you know where each of the samples comes from an how they resonate in the context of the present song
	9:33pm hyde: @Gary yeah, that's like the Beastie's site. it gives you the samples and explains the references to Sadaharu Oh and Otis the Drunk, which will probably be useful when all these references are totally dated. Like they are today, i guess.

	9:40pm Holly in NC: @Doug - That "malaise" speech profoundly changed the course of history. 1) I think it's a great speech 2) Not many people shared that opinion. Could you imagine our world if Carter had been able to prevail as the voice of the US?

	9:41pm Ike: The TV criticism by Emily Nussbaum is excellent. If you ever want to discover some cool new shows, read her columns. She's much better than the film critics, esp. the bland Denby. Anthony Lane is very funny though... for a crusty old crank. (Get off my lawn, you kids and your comic book movies!)
	9:43pm Gary: Yeah, Anthony Lane cracks me up. I almost never care about the realm of movies he's writing about. (Which makes me more of a lawn-crier than he, probably.)

It's interesting as far as it goes. It basically gave me the provenance of various elements. I just don't see the market potential for this.

In ink, after pencil drafts. So yes Gary maybe OCD. ;-)
