Good Wednesday, Jeff, Jeff, and all!!

Jeff Golick:

hey, hey @Mare -- from Serbia!!

And greets/good Weds to you, @ljfw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am
listener james from westwood:

Appreciated the pre–in theme "In Crowd" if that was y'all's stream commandeering in action.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am
Jeff Golick:

'deed it was! Thanks for noticing! You ARE the in-crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am
listener james from westwood:

"Casino" uses 2 versions back to back as a whale gets his comeuppance. Glorious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Jeff Golick:

Marty really is nonpareil when it comes to re-purposing (re-porpoise-ing?) pop tunes.

Hey, Jeff G, listener james and Mare!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Jeff Golick:

Mornin', @doca!
Avatar 9:17am
doca:

Morning! Digging the new time slot, though I'll have to leave soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am
Jeff Golick:

Glad you can drop by for a spell...we'll be here when you get back, archivally speaking.
Avatar 9:20am
doca:

@Jeff G: I was late and got lost on Downtown going to the William Parker concert, then I got back to find my friends and got lost on the West Village that day. It was the only time I got lost during the whole trip.
Avatar 9:22am
doca:

Who's on this Chicago Reed Quartet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
Jeff Golick:

@doca: so easy to get lost heading to DMG -- it's taken me years to figure out my one route.

Re Chicago Reed Qt: aerophonicrecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Jeff Golick:

Dave Rempis, Ken Vandermark, Mars Williams, Nick Mazzarella.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
listener james from westwood:

Loverly stuff this first set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Jeff Golick:

Glad to hear it @ljfw. ODing on horns. And coffee.
Avatar 9:29am
doca:

@Jeff G: Thanks! Four great players on it. Those are nice players. And yeah, the rest of Manhattan is easy, but those two sections of it are hard to understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Jeff Golick:

These cats -- Del-Alfoldi -- are Hungarian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am
Jeff Golick:

Other highlights from the trip, @doca? You see ICP on Wednesday?
Avatar 9:33am
doca:

@Jeff: No, I went to the Acid Mothers Temple concert (no regrets, lots of noise). I went to Barbès twice, which became my favorite place, for sure. I wish I've seen more stuff on The Stone, but the Leo Smith concert I saw was also great. I've seen lots of music, but almost nothing of what I planned to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am
Jeff Golick:

Ah, Barbès! My white whale. I live about ten blocks away from that club, my son has been good friends with the owner's son, and I've never seen a show there!
Avatar 9:34am
doca:

And also an open mic night on Jalopy, in Red Hook, which got along well with the folky-side of my musical tastes.

doctorjazz:

Hey all! Have to say, haven't listened to that much "out" stuff in a while (going through a 2nd or 3rd or 4th adolescence, pop-punk binge), have to say, really enjoying it! Nice show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
Jeff Golick:

Ah cool. The Mekons will be at Jalopy in a month or two, I think. Hoping to make that one...

You really got along wonderfully, it seems!
Avatar 9:37am
doca:

Really? You need to go. Good beer and lots of music. I went to a Brecht concert, then the house African-style band, and on the other day to a project called Weird Wednesday, with home-made instruments.
And Park Slope is beautiful, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am
Jeff Golick:

Hi hi, @doctorjazz! Wonderful to hear it!
Avatar 9:40am

@doctorjazz: D:O show is master in doing the difficult seem easy, or the 'out' seem 'in'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am

Aw, we're blushing, @doca.

All we ask is that you listen with your ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am

Rats! My best to Jeff J. for a better day after he recovers. Horrible!
Avatar 9:51am
doca:

This is one of my favorite records from the Nonesuch series. Kronos Quartet recorded a version of it, but I haven't listened
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am
Jeff Golick:

Oh, it's wonderful, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am
listener james from westwood:

Wasn't one of Dick Dale's relatives an oudist, and a strong influence on his guitar style?
Avatar 9:54am
doca:

Yeah, I don't know what is that he plays, but it has the same sound of the Malian kora.
And btw, this one could fit easily into the Sublime Frequencies catalog, www.nonesuch.com...
Avatar 9:55am
doca:

But I have to go. See you later, Jeff G. and folks. Best wishes for Jeff J!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am

I've been looking for that one, @doca. Take care, and thanks for coming by!

Didn't know that, @ljfw! Makes perfect sense.

Sorry to have missed Hamza el Din. One of my favorites, too. Heard him perform at McCabe's Guitar shop in Santa Monica. He did a lot of work on frame drum. Another great recording of his is "Lily of the Nile" on Water Lily Acoustics. Radiant sound.
