	10:51am Jeff Moore: You watch The Rockford Files for James Garner's portrayal of Jim Rockford's world-weary yet somehow still good humored really low expectations of how the world will treat him and others. And yes, that loose and seedy LA vibe.

In the final scenes, Segal staring into the middle distance seized with sudden knowledge as to the meaningless of effort/exertion/passion/mania/etc.--oh man, that always kills me.

Also, big ups to Orange County, now and forever. If people liked Pynchon's "Inherent Vice", I'd also recommend "Crybaby of the Western World" by John Leonard, my favorite old NYBR critic. It's pretty much a direct blood relation of "Inherent Vice" (we're talking only a few alleles off) but was actually written and published in 67-69.

Also, big ups to Orange County, now and forever. If people liked Pynchon's "Inherent Vice", I'd also recommend "Crybaby of the Western World" by John Leonard, my favorite old NYBR critic. It's pretty much a direct blood relation of "Inherent Vice" (we're talking only a few alleles off) but was actually written and published in 67-69.
