Michael Shelley:

HAD TO GOOGLE IT: Michaelmas (/ˈmɪkəlməs/; also known as the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the Feast of the Archangels, or the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels) is a Christian festival observed in some Western liturgical calendars on 29 September. In some denominations a reference to a fourth angel, usually Uriel, is also added. Michaelmas has been one of the four quarter days of the financial year.[3] The Serbian Orthodox Church observes the feast, whereas most Eastern Orthodox Churches do not.[2] The Greek and Romanian Orthodox honor the archangels on 8 November instead, honoring the Cherubim and Seraphim also.

In Christian angelology, the Archangel Michael is the greatest of all the Archangels and is honored for defeating Satan in the war in heaven.[4] He is one of the principal angelic warriors, seen as a protector against the dark of night, and the administrator of cosmic intelligence. Michaelmas has also delineated time and seasons for secular purposes as well, particularly in Britain and Ireland as one of the quarter days.

Poor Brett. Not a single of us high schoolers in the 1980s would misinterpret the stuff about Renata and drinking in his yearbook. If he lies about that, of course he'll lie about the heavy stuff. There is no doubt that Dr. Ford is telling the truth. However, Kavanaugh may not be lying because he might have been so drunk, and more frighteningly, may have done this a few times as a teenager, that he really does not remember. This is the reason the Democratic senators were focusing on his heavy drinking as a teenager and the attendant blackouts. His denial of corroborated behavior indicates that he is lying about that. The "ralph" club is because of his weak stomach!? I wish one of the senators would have said do not insult "my intelligence". Also, he may now still see his behavior as adolescent horseplay. Given his behavior when she saw him a month later, Mark Judge clearly thought it was a problem and perhaps has been drinking to forget his own complicity in a sexual assault.

To respond to Bob's point about accusations, Dr. Ford's testimony was much more detailed and specific than merely asserting sexual assault. There is a difference. If anyone saw her testimony, it's hard to accuse her of lying, especially given the way her life has been disrupted by all of the attention: death threats, a security detail, traveling in secret. She gains nothing by coming forward, except to tell her story of trauma perpetrated by someone who is clearly indifferent to the consequences of his actions. Even Senator Grassley was persuaded by her testimony and the Fox news people were in panic mode.
