Hey, all! Can anyone guess today's mystery LP-under-the cassettes? Just enough is showing to make it possible to recognize, if you happen to know it. Of course, it's pretty obscure, but....

Heya Tony and all!
Wow, double-cassette box!

Heya, James! Actually that's just one cassette, in luxury digs

Heya Tony and all! As usual I have no idea what this LP is... but I love it's graphic style.

The album cover reminds me of fight scene flashes from Batman episodes. "Pow!"

Hi Tony! Hi everybodeez!
Avatar 12:08pm

Hiya, fleep!

My premium this year will feature Canadian post-punk and experimental stuff from the '80s

Tony Coulter:

Hola, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm

My premium has a blurb! I feel like Navin Johnson finding his name in the phonebook! And it's dead last in the DJ premium list! That's good, right?

What's the theme/focus of it?

Since no one is guessing, I will reveal the secret identity of today's mystery LP: www.discogs.com...

Tony @12:13: It's all Pacific Northwest thrift store finds that are Pacific Northwest releases.
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Ha! Interesting! Wonder how many I will know from my own NW thrift-store digging
  12:25pm
Dean:

Wow, Lussier, Derome, Chadbourne, Bishop, Sharp...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Rich in Washington:

Possibly something. I think there's a school music department type record that when I found it, I found that you once played it on your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Rich in Washington:

I am pretty sure you and I forage through similar locales, though my thrift digging is primarily on this side of the river, up and down the coast of your fair state.
Avatar 12:28pm
Tony Coulter:

Hmm: Discogs categorizes the tape on now as "acid jazz"

By the way, the guy who ran the Tago Mago label (label for this tape and the one before it) is Pascal Bussy, who wrote great books on both Can and Kraftwerk
Avatar 12:52pm
Tony Coulter:

Double hmm: Discogs categorizes *this* tape as synth pop. Come on already
  1:01pm
Dean:

In their defense, this "Desperation..." is kinda synth-poppy.
Avatar 1:02pm
Tony Coulter:

True ...
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Guess they just screened out the bulk of the tape and cut to the synth-pop chase
Avatar 1:12pm

This track on now reminds me a bit of some '80s Richard Pinhas stuff

Martin Ingle, new to me!

A friend once gave me a belated Tellus comp as a bday gift to my then roommate who she ran into on a way to his dj gig. He left the record at the club. He was embarrassed. (wish I got it).
Avatar 1:22pm

Interestingly, Marten Ingle was in some U.S. psych/prog(?) bands in the U.S. before moving to France. His bio is here: www.marteningle.com...

This VØ is pretty out there.
I think Meryl Streep was beautiful back in the late 70's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Rich in Washington:

around the time that this cassette came out, Guitar Player Magazine did a surprisingly good article on the then burgeoning New York guitar band scene (Live Skull, Rat At Rat R, Elliot Sharp, Glenn Branca, and, naturally, Sonic Youth). I wish I still had it. I stupidly threw it out sometime in the 90s.

Once in grad school, David Linton had a show in his loft. Being skint, I smuggled a 40 oz into the show (it was a pay bar). Of course, near the night, I accidentally dropped it. Linton was livid. I apologized, cleaned up, and sheepishly left.

Tony Coulter:

Oops! Accidentally skipped over Lydia Lunch -- she's on this side of the tape too!
  2:28pm
Dean:

Nope, you mentioned her.

@Rich in WA: Are you referring to a Sept. '86 Guitar Player article by Mark Dery, "New York Guitar '86: The Bands"? Thought I might have access to it, but no.
Avatar 2:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Or maybe I did mention her? Who knows? (Coffee -- I need coffee!)

Thanks, Dean -- re Ms. Lunch. Two mentions are better than one, I guess -- particularly since I kinda used to have a crush on her.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm

I too had a huge crush on Lydia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
