That included Jet Boy Jet Girl, which I assumed was the English version of Ca Plane Por Moi. But Motello'a lyrics about unrequited underage gay love didn't seem to match what I could decipher of Ca Plane Pout Moi (this was before you could look things up on the WWW). Don Snowden in LA Times called Seconds of Pleasure "satisfying but surprisingly timid..." Robert Palmer in the NYT wrote, "It is a delightful record, unpretentious and more varied than either of the two principals' solo efforts." Palmer included the album among his picks of the year's best.

The laser show in Atlanta was projected on the side of Stone Mountain, the largest exposed outcrop of granite in the world. Unfortunately, it has Confederate "heroes" carved in ~60' reliefs on the face where the lasers are projected. At the climax, they are animated (to Lee Greenwood, natch) and symbolically break their swords and ride off ... but it's not very convincing. A fraught but one tended to go at least once a year.

Malkmus...yeah...maybe we should have been guards.;). Was he known as "spiral staircase' at that time? I can't remember.

Mass appeal. I get it.

This is a great, rocking tune. I first heard it on one of Trouble's marathon premiums and it resonated.

Scott Kannberg is Spiral Stairs. He started a band called Preston School of Industry. The production on that Breakaways song is nonpareil.

Spiral was Scott Kannberg (sp?) and he has put out a few great solo LP's

Those boys sure can sing, Mr. Darling.

The song that makes cringe most is Bruce's rendition of Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town. I'm lukewarm on Bruce, love Christmastime, but for some reason hearing that song in a store reinforces the commercial excess about to flood us, and Bruce's slightly sung narration is horrific.

Wild Jimmy Spruill playing the greatest solo ever. I just came in, so if you announced that already I apologize.

i kinda think Them's version of Baby Please Don't Go might be the best solo ever.

McCartney is Thee Melodic Genius - but the Gemini needs an Editor. Just no getting around Lennon & McCartney were perfect mutual foils : Lennon brought gravitas @ Paulie accessibility.

Late to this, but Cactus Blossoms do a sublime cover of Charlie Rich's "Life Has It's Little Ups and Downs". I heard it live and it made me pull the trigger on proposing to my girlfriend.

Won’t speak of WCT, beneath notice, but I went to a laser planetarium show in the 70s with Pink Floyd etc. and someone was screaming and yelling throughout. When the lights came up, it was a special needs kid. I guess he enjoyed it and it certainly made it more interesting. I thought there were going to be 3d floating images so I was a little disappointed.

I'm more inclined to believe my own solo, pace Eddie Van Halen, on a spontaneous track my buddies and I recorded, "Crabmeat Baltimore" (lyrics straight from the cookbook), surpasses that Pyramids solo.

McCartney fan here but sorry, WCT is annoying, and Mike Sin is probably right about how he created it (another reason I didn't like M2---too much screwing around w/synths & not enough real songs). I don't mind "experimental" McCartney (I liked "Electric Arguments") if some effort went into it, hope the new album isn't like #2....and yes, he isn't always the best judge of his own material (same w/Springsteen), Dylan, etc.).
