Punxsutawney Phil declared four more years of fascism, but the current Staten Island Chuck remains unkilled by Bill de Blasio, so we've at least got that.
i think my sadness and the general sadness is that she had so much more to offer which in a sense was mapped in such a way that anyone can see into the/her future
in other words the pieces were in place in such a way it's easy to envision where her music was going, but which we'll never hear and that's why we feel her loss so sharply
I never got to see her, there was always a dance show on the same day. I think there was one a few years ago with Susie Ibarra that I was doubly unhappy to miss (I have somehow never seen Ibarra)
i was probably just speaking subjectively, in that i've heard enough of alcorn's music i can anticipate more of it... sorry to superimpose that on folks..
I just realized that I described myself as being in southern New England, which is wrong! I blame lack of caffeine. It is really southern Northern New England! I apologize to anyone who was misled.
I bet Big Ears will have her group playing with guests, not necessarily guitarists. Would love to hear Alcorn's music translated to trombone for example!
Jeff, I'm making kippers and onions and eggs. It's been a long while since I've made this childhood favorite. Okay, now I'm really going into the kitchen.
Nah, it's just resentment of central administration, it really makes no sense (like Lille, Brittany or Strasbourg would be "Paris", which they would strongly object to)
Today in groundhog day-related news (via bluesky): "Breaking: Punxsutawney Phil sees the shadow of death and fall of an empire, so there will be 6 more weeks of winter and then groundhogs inherit the earth."
Speaking of very long tracks, did anyone else catch that mind-melting jam Mary Wing played the other day? Like 58 minutes long. I heard about half of it. I plan to go back and see if I can endure the whole thing!
fireaidla.org -- lotta big names, but there was also a Nirvana "reunion" set, fronted by a rotating frontwoman - St. Vincent > Kim Gordon > Joan Jett > Violet Grohl.
Love that FireAid page, a tiny section with the artists listed in 11 point type, followed by," Whenever you see climate disaster, don't think of us"__the undersigned.....*an entire page of huge expensive humanity-free corporate logos. Bluechipstock.Three days of greenwashing and maybe some peace and love, if you can afford it.
I'm not sure I diskike congestion pricing so far-have driven into the city 3 times since it started. Once didn't see much difference. Once pretty good drive in, able to park without too much trouble. Third time was a Friday night, absloutely NO traffic into NYC, flew in. If it's always like this, worth the extra few bucks (hell, it's already a fortune to do anything in Manhattan..>)
Must admit I'm always gratified to have Hendrix presented in any sort of Jazz context. Where I think he makes a (conditionally) surprising amount of sense...
'Solarized' I think they used to call the effect.
In the UK - a clutch of distorted nekkid women. Hendrix not amused.
What he wanted was Linda Eastman (before 'McCartney') photos of the Experience trio in Central Park on Alice in Wonderland statues with little kids. Since restored to his wishes...
In fact I like the U.S. cover design - a fiery Hendrix with the Experience posed in psych finery on back with arabesque typography...

Have not seen any indication for cause of death of Alcorn. Have seen that I have yet to hear the full range of her recordings.

As a born and bred Masshole, I always felt that VT/NH/ME was the north, CT/RI the south, and MA basically central.
