	9:46am ɛɨk: I saw Mary Queen of Scots because my mom demanded it. It wasn't bad, but we'd watched Roma on Netflix the previous night and by comparison MQOS seemed quite rushed. I'm wary of seeing The Favourite just because I hated The Lobster and it's the same director, though Olivia Colman is always great so that's a point in its favor.

	10:02am Brian in UK: We have to wait until NYD for release for The Favourite. @melinda, The Lobster is not a comfortable film, disconcerting might be the correct word. It might be the case whether you accept the world in which it is set will decide your opinion. There were only us in the cinema when we saw it. Odd, that it was on at a multiplex.

	10:27am ɛɨk: I'm at work so I can't really get into everything that's wrong with The Lobster. Don't even get me started. Calling The Lobster "uncomfortable" is almost like praising it because it makes it sound like it could be a worthwhile art film. It's as dumb as a Transformers movie. It's set in perhaps the single least realistic world ever seen in any arty film. I kept waiting for some allegorical value to its fantasy world, but there was none. Interesting dialogue? Nope. Characters? Zeroes. Good acting? Eh, the actors have nothing to work with. The description posted by WN is accurate, yet it makes it sound 1000x as interesting as it actually is. Boring, stupid, empty, dull, dumb. I'd rather watch Santa Claus Conquers the Martians again.

By the way, I saw that movie where the guy dies and he is a literal ghost (bedsheet with holes in it) and his wife binge eats an entire pie. I hated that movie (hate is too strong a word maybe, it implies I felt something. I felt nothing. ) so much, I walked out without a second thought. It was literally the WORST movie I had ever seen, bar none, including that stupid movie about a poet my wife made me sit through once. REALLY REALLY REALLY bad. AVOID! @eik-I was set up on a blind date, that was actually really good and we got married. Arranged marriages have a certain logic to them in my mind and could work in practice because, quiite often, in India, they do.

I definitely should see that Albicocco adaptation. Thank you for the heads-up.

	11:47am Passaic River Blues: @Brian: that's very fitting (Vaseline on the edge of the lenses) because, as I recall, Alain-Fournier's narrative has the feeling of an airy fairytale, with time and space telescoped and then elongated in a truly childlike way. I definitely should see that Albicocco adaptation. Thank you for the heads-up.
